If it was hitting too far left or right which sight would you have adjusted,front or rear?
@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast2 күн бұрын
The rear
@johnjohnson13132 күн бұрын
But wouldn't that cause you to move the stock into or away from your face? (side to side). I've always thought it would make more sense to move the front sight.
@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast2 күн бұрын
No, it is such a fine adjustment that it makes no appreciable difference. The same can be said for adjusting up and down
@johnjohnson13132 күн бұрын
Thanks. The reason I ask is I just fabricated some open sights from scratch for my crossbow and was struggling with the dynamics in play. Happy hunting.My older brother killed a giant buck in Maine in the late 1960's.

@johnjohnson1313 that’s pretty cool! Let us know how they work out! Maine had great deer hunting in the 60’s. I would have loved to experience it!

I have watched your videos, but this is the first podcast I have listened to. I appreciate the laid back energy. Very down to earth and relatable. The opposite of commercial. I really enjoyed you sharing your love for the outdoors with the rest of us. Shot my buck on October 19th in Vermont. It is indeed a LONG 11 months.

Always enjoy your podcasts. I’m stuck in the middle of the grind myself. 35 years the same job…it’s paid the bills and ive worked out a decent hunting week every year and Mondays to hunt archery in October and November. It’s a tough balance for sure but I’m grateful I’m not in debt and have enough to be able to have a camp and some nice hunting things. Grateful for a wife that never ever complains about how much time I scout and spend in the woods or the money I spend to allow me to prepare for every season. In the end finding the things to be grateful for helps immensely when you’re “in the grind”.

Thanks! It's as much about having the right attitude no matter the season we are in...great point!

What do you think about the new Filson wool products (ca. post 2022 or so) including all the Cruisers, that are made from imported rather than US wool? It feels much less substantial to me. It's no longer Pendleton, from Italy many say, but importantly it is not boiled...so the weave is not as tight. Any thoughts on these newer Filson wool products? Thanks.
@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast4 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for the comment! I find myself becoming more and more disappointed...frankly with most companies. It seems that the consistency in quality is harder and harder to find. Most companies are ditching the 100% wool products and replacing them with wool blends...so on and so forth. Never seems to go up in quality but does manage to go up in price🧐. I haven't handled a recently made Filson wool cruiser so I can't say for certain what I think of it. The next time I am near a Filson store I am going to make a point! Appreciate it!
@Hagall9994 күн бұрын
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast Thanks a lot. Please make a video if you ever compare the older Filson's Pendleton US made boiled Mackinaw wool with Filson's newer Italian or New Zealand imported non-boiled Mackinaw wool. Thanks again.

As a Vermont I try to support vt co. Darn Tough are very good, minus 33 from Nh are ok and Fox River for me are the best of the three hands down. Have people I know that work for Darn Tough in Northfield vt about 7 miles from my home, they make a good sock no doubt. I'm a wool guy top to bottom period and 18" LaCrosse Rubber boots 👢 I'm 70 years old and still going 🤙🙏🇺🇸🦌🇺🇸 Folks get out there and do some Coyote hunting and save a few Deer 🦌 Good Luck in the Great outdoors!! I am slowly catching up. Once again you touched on so much subjects that I think about often. Sometimes I can’t put it into words but you guy do a great job. Really enjoyed it. I also share your fascination with old deer hunting and camp stories. Our Christmas gatherings also end up with the guys talking about the past season and even with that some are no longer with us. Also laughed about the wife walking away when talking about hunting to someone in the stores or out and about.😂 Regards Mark

Learning and hunting definitely go hand in hand. Hunting is a series of "learning opportunities". Once you make enough hunting mistakes you get better. Just when I think I've made all of the mistakes, I still manage to find another 😂. However, at my advanced age, I tend to not make the big mistakes. Thanks for the great podcast!

The risk you take is different for each person, but the more risk you take and if your determination and ambition is there with it, you’ll eventually come out of top. Though it is harder the older you get especially if you have a family and responsibilities. When you detach from the societal grind and your own your own, it makes life feel so much different and the opportunities are endless . It’s great to see two generations discussing this, I do agree corporate has changed a lot. The instead of retiring from work, I like to look at it as to find something to retire to. It’s also much different times now , and many people will take security over freedom. The freedom seems risky and an unknown land but for the ones who live in that free mind never look back. Personally I went on my own at 24 and I wish it was earlier. My parents upbringing totally different mentality, they took pride in their jobs so quitting wasn’t ever on their minds. I’m curious on them gloves I’ll need to check them out, but socks those Hollow alpaca socks are amazing especially for those of us that have sweaty feet! Breath better than wool
@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast5 күн бұрын
I agree! I truly believe if an individual is personally growing, they eventually outgrow the place they are at and to continue the journey of personal growth they have to continue on. I never view it as quitting but rather going someplace new. There is a difference. It's like graduating to the next level. You're right, it is very easy to trade your values in for comfort. That becomes a slippery slope. How far will someone compromise their values to retain that comfort? That line can be pushed further and further. It sounds like you have lived that! I'm always intrigued by peoples stories. It's amazing the different paths people take to get to where they are at- Valuable lessons we can learn from one another! I'll have to try those socks! Appreciate the thoughtful comment!👍

Does the jacket fit true to size, considering I typically wear XL in other jackets, and given that I've never worn a wool jacket before and am unsure if it will be tight or allow for layering underneath?
@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast7 күн бұрын
I can't attest to how their current line of jackets fit. I find most companies fit seems to change from year to year now. It seems like nowadays, I think I'm familiar with a fit, only to find it's different than the exact same item I purchased the year before. Try it on and go from there! Good luck!

Hey Paul if you go to Walmart don't go to the hunting department for your SD cards or anything go to the electronics it's half the price and works just as good I went there the other day to buy a SD card reader the one in the hunting Department was like 50 bucks I went into electronics and bought it for 18 I mean it's in my pocket it's not going to get wet or anything it's just reading SD cards it doesn't have to be nothing fancy so I bought the one in the electronics I know I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know but you can get one for any phone
