When I started Mylio I Linked the files I had and modified quite a few. If I want to move to Copying them into Mylio and manage them there how would that be done? Willl loose the changes I already made to those photos if I do?

Hi - Most of the changes you make in Mylio Photos are saved in XMP sidecar files. If you remove a linked folder from your catalog, and then choose to import those same files via a Copy import, any metadata changes, including dates, face tagging, keywords, etc. will all be read via the XMP file. The only things are are not saved in XMP and that will be lost if you proceed are Categories and Albums. Those would need to be re-created after re-importing. ~Angela

The new folder looks good, but they no longer show the # of photos and sub folders unless you zoom very close in, and they are now wide instead of square. Is there a way to customize the new folders?

Hi @keen99 - The number of folders and sub-folders is shown in the folder tab. If you're not seeing it, you'll need to zoom in a bit on the grid view (make the folders larger). You can still customize your Folder view with custom cover photos, so you can choose a photo that looks good in landscape orientation. If you prefer the old look with square tiles, you can revert to the previous view under the More menu > Settings > Device Appearance > Show Folder Icons. Hope that helps! ~Angela

@@keen99 You should be able to click the X on the reminder to turn it off. However, it will come back next time you re-launch because Mylio is pretty concerned with making sure your photos are protected. If you haven't yet added at least one Vault, I highly reccomend doing so. ~ Angela

Why not a "pay for what you use" model instead of forcing people into two defined tiers? I'm doing with with Backblaze already and it's way cheaper than Mylio's offerings.

Hi Scott - We opted for a tiered pricing structure to make it easy to understand and so users would know with certainty what their cost would be. The price for SecureCloud Storage for Mylio Drive+ is competitive with the per TB cost of other cloud storage options on the market. If you're already working with Backblaze directly via S3 and are satisfied with your setup, you don't need to make any changes at this time. ~Angela

Hi Aadesh - My best suggestion is to try an alternate browser, and/or a VPN. We do not have any blocks on servers in India that I am aware of, so you should be able to access our website. Please also note that Mylio Photos is an application, not a web-app. From your phone, you should be able to download the application from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

I think i understand how the Vaults work and how they protect the data against corruption, theft and equipment failure. I also, understand if you delete something in Myio, it's gone forever. I use Backblaze as vault, but also as a regular way to back up my photos. That way if i deleted something i wanted to undo, i can get it back.

The keyword stuff would be nice. Can it pull OCR data out as a keyword in to a photo? I've been chasing something to do that nothing around, it's for work more so than home stuff

Hi @zagan1 - We don't have a mechanism to pull OCR data into keywords, but both OCR and keywords are searchable in Mylio Photos, so those images will show in search results either way. ~Angela

Hi @joeglennaz - Mylio Photos lets you configure devices (most commonly external drives) as Vaults, which hold your entire library. Having 2 or more Vaults protects your library from device loss or failure (e.g., hard drive failure, physical loss, etc.). Thanks for the great tips, Angela. I have been using Mylio for about a couple weeks now. I would like organize photos for others. I think using spaces would help me with keeping my personal photos separate from client photos. Would you have any tips on how to use Mylio for multiple organizing projects with one Mylio account?

Great lessons..question how do you rename the source drive names (highest level)? In your example, “intel MacBook Pro” and “m1 MacBook Pro”.My source had some weird names. Also can you manually arrange them I.e. if I want to move my MacBook Pro folders to the very top?

Hi @keen99 - You can rename your computers (or other devices) from the Mylio Dashboard. This doesn't change it in your computer system, only how it is displayed in Mylio Photos. Go to Dashboard > Devices, then select the computer you want to rename. In the next column, under Device Details, click into the field where the computer name is, and rename it as desired. If you want to move your linked folders from your MacBook Pro to the top level in Folders view, you can do that from the Dashboard as well. Select the computer you're using, then under Device Details, go to Linked Folders. Select the folder you want at the top level and choose Mark as Library Folder. If you'd also like to maintain the originals in this folder on your MacBook Pro (rather than letting SpaceSaver offload them to a Vault), make sure you toggle the switch for Keep Files Imported On This Device to the ON position. Hi - Mylio Photos doesn't physically hold your photos. Rather, it points to where they live on your computer, external drive, etc. If you delete a photo in Mylio Photos, it deletes it from your computer/drive. However, if you choose to stop using the Mylio Photos application, your photos will always be available in your file system. ~Angela

I have a lot of pictures, many TBs, and I need to know that this program doesn't move my original photos or organize them differently than they are currently. If the program can add descriptions and keywords to the image, are these details added to the original image/file, or only to the Mylio database? If Mylio can update the description and keywords in the image, does it do anything else to the original, such as adding information (like ads) to my photos to indicate that Mylio has modified the file? I need to ensure that the only changes made are the updates to the keywords and descriptions, nothing else. And the file must not be moved. Will Mylio create a copy of all the images since it is not allowed to move the location of the image?

Hi MrAalestrup - You can link your media from its current location, and Mylio will not move or reorganize anything automatically. Additionally, all metadata changes are saved in industry-standard XMP files that reside next to your photos. There is no advertising or watermarking indicating that Mylio Photos has made changes.

What information is stored on my PC in relation to my photos? Are files created in each sub/dir? or how or if a database is created and is the database on my PC or with the company that offers this software. And what about compatibility with different software, a keyword should ideally be placed in the same place in an EXIF or IPCT, otherwise other programs cannot find the information and your work is wasted.

@@MylioPhotos I've deleted the program again. I was uneasy about the method and was afraid it would change something other than just adding keywords to the file, but it can't. It seems like the program can only handle the information you enter after installation, so all keywords and descriptions you've entered beforehand are not read. It creates an extra file for each image. If you start using the program and then regret it, you'll have to redo all your work, since it only stores your descriptions and keywords in its own file. What I want is that when I assign a keyword, it's stored in the image file's EXIF data, and not in a separate file, the same with descriptions. The search function is very limited. The smart-Keywords are in English, which is not my language, and besides, it's extremely bad at evaluating the content of an image. Overall, the bad things about the program overshadow the good things, which become insignificant, so it's now been removed from my computer.

I read below ( in the answer of the question of @carstorm85 ) that there is somewhere an option to apply metadata directly to the original images with Mylio Photos' “Save Metadata to File” option. It is of course wise to test this out first (on a few test photo-files) and to verify what exactly happens to the existing metadata, that you entered before and was already there before Mylio was installed, in other words taking into account your earlier statement that Mylio could not read the earlier existing metadata -> When Mylio writes new metadata into the photo-file, what happens with the old metadata ... ? On this topic, I think it is also important to try to figure out if this earlier existing metadata has been stored according to proper & common standards, because if not, then it is probably not only going to be Mylio having trouble reading this metadata, but also other programs that follows certain metadata standards ... Probably not an easy task I think, and this also shows painfully that all stories about "you can choose to change program at any time if you like ... bla bla bla" ... is always to be taken with a grain of salt :o)

To address your concerns about keywords, by default, they are stored in industry-standard sidecar XMP files, which can be ready by most photo management applications. However, if you want to embed metadata changes to your files, Mylio does let you initiate that for compatible file types. @@zakzoezie8658 It may well be that my test of the program has been too quick, in any case the function has not been easily accessible because then I would have seen it. But to be compatible, I measure the programs against Adboe Photoshop, if Photoshop or Brigde can read the embedded data, I consider it an approval. In fact, it's usually the first test I do before I spend too much time understanding the new programs I'm testing. If they cannot embed data that can be read by adobe Photoshop in the right positions, then I interrupt the test and delete the program. But in myilo I could not see embedded data and so the program is not interesting. Since I care a lot about being able to find my pictures via keywords or descriptions.

This is good as I had 3 vaults that seemed to be locked at 10% complete. 1 vault got to 99% complete but it wouldn't send anything to the other vaults. So I've tried to wipe the database but that can't be done as each device hold the database. But as summer devices are wiped and other hold different amounts of database and files. I've restarted the devices again but the files just keep adding on top of the old database stats. I'm going to see if dedup might clean it up. There's needs to be a way to completely wipe the database on the account in every way and then rebuild it as a completely clean account.

It's easy... Qnap and windows. You use mylio on a desktop. Add media.. Add nas drive. Select a folder on the nas network drive. That's it. You have a nas vault set up.

Hi @Andyinth - If you're on a Windows computer, you can use any NAS to create a direct connection. If you prefer to use the S3 connection, we have instructions in our manual for Synology, but it can work with any NAS capable of installing Docker.

Something that isn't clear for me, at 07:25 you show that the Travel Backup was added to the iOS File System. Does it automatically call the external drive that you added Travel Backup when connecting with an iOS device? Or did you have to name it Travel Backup?

@JadeSambrook - It depends on your needs and the size of your library. If losing the drive (and having someone misuse the contents) is a concern, then not traveling with your entire library is prudent. However, if needing access to your entire library at full quality is important, AND your library is small enough to fit on an SSD, I don't see an issue. Personally, I travel with an SSD Vault. This is not my only Vault drive, though. I would make sure to also have a Vault drive that is left at home as well. ~Angela

Hi, @shanetillotson5390 - Unfortunately. thumb drives cannot be used as Mylio devices. They (along with camera cards) are considered temporary media and thus can't be used as Mylio devices. ~Angela

DON'T GET THIS APP AS IT IS GARBAGE !! Notice it is only rated great by SPONSORED VIDEOS !! There is a reason for this trust me ! KZbinrs for good or bad will always tell you they're non biased while getting money !! Yeah sure ! I believe you !! I fell for this garbage and let me tell you my experience in a little over a year of their so called "app". Firstly there were TONS OF BUGS !! And I do mean TONS where the app was barely usable at times. Secondly their support is GARBAGE as they will look for excuses and ALWAYS BLAME YOU-It's never their garbage software !! Thirdly-and this is my SURE FIRE way to KNOW a company are SCAMMERS !! Try cancelling--Good luck to you as I have done everything from sending emails to responding on their site and yet here we are nearly 2 months after my subscription RAN OUT and THEY'RE STILL TRYING TO CHARGE MY CARD !!! This is the work of a scammer unethical company FOR SURE !!! I had to cancel my card just to avoid being charged by them !!!. Also funny that when you send them emails no matter what address you send it to when they know you're trying to cancel they will respond saying "This email is not monitored".
