Certain kung fu styles emphasis training the tendons, bones, joints and ligaments. Any muscle 'building' that occurs whilst training is a by product. This can explain the extraordinary strength that seasoned kung fu practioners can demonstrate.

One of the best walk, run stretching videos. Even for just daily stretching for mobility. Am surprised it doesn't have a million views. But then as youtube watchers we go for sleek productions and model bodies rather than best safest most authentic content. Can't wait to do theae

Every bit of exercise science says to do a dynamic warmup before physical activity. Every one of these exercises is a static movement. Plus, the calf stretch at 4:58 may be the single worst way to stretch a calf possible. All it does is put extreme pressure on the knee.
@StretchCoach
@StretchCoach 10 ай бұрын
Who said this routine was for a warm-up? Nowhere on the video or this page does it say this is for a warm-up. In fact, in the description it says.... "be sure to warm-up first." This routine is for improving flexibility, not warming up. If you assumed it was for warming up, then that's your mistake. As for the calf stretch, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this stretch if you have healthy knees and calves. If, however, you have a knee or calf injury, then you should avoid this stretch, but the same can be said for every stretch. If you have a shoulder injury for example, you should avoid shoulder stretches. The instructions in the description clearly state... "if any of the exercises cause pain or severe discomfort, discontinue immediately." Which is a general rule for all stretches whether you have an injury or not.

Excellent, Brad. Thanks for making it clear that this is not a warmup. When I searched for a warmup routine, KZbin suggested it. And thanks for confirming that the calf stretch doesn’t work for anyone with knee issues. Of course, there are about a dozen other ways to stretch one’s calf that wouldn’t trigger knee pain nearly as quickly or as easily. But let’s stick with this stretch.

Hi there, is this a warm up or post cool down routine? Thanks Adelina
@StretchCoach
@StretchCoach 10 ай бұрын
Neither, it's not for warming up or cooling down. It's a routine for improving flexibility. It works best as a stand-alone workout, although is could be used as a good recovery session.

I am 67 and I like swimming. It is one of my favorite entertainment. recently, after swimming, I feel pain in my neck and shoulder and sometimes in my lower back. I am not sure if my poor techniques cause this pain. Your video is very helpful to me. these exercises are simple enough for everyone to try and are explained very well. I downloaded this video and will do these exercises for warming up before swimming. I will incorporate these exercises into my routine before. thank you so much.

This routine is best done after your swim as part of your cool down. Or, as a stand-alone stretching session if you want to work on your flexibility (make sure you warm up first). Another good time to do it is in the evening before you go to bed.
