Why no 4 powder keg maindeck like in old Extended? Is the solution to almost all deck weakness

As I said in the beginning, I didn't really build the deck. It was a list gathered from 2 of the best performing Stasis players that I found on tcdecks.net. I assume there's a reason why they didn't play Kegs, but I don't know what that is.

The old stasis deck i had was white blue. White to remove stuff, and use Kismet. Blue had counter spells and chronatog to always skip your turn. Kismet brings everything into play tapped. And just mill their deck.

Yeah, over the years we've seen a ton of variations with Kismet and Root Maze, and even Oath of Druids for Akroma, but the lists that more consistently do well have been Mono U for quite a while.

I just made too 8 at at 22 man tournament using the base of this deck. Cut black mana (grist and dismember) Added sylvan safekeeper (easier combo outlet), added the full four P-ending. Feels like i want to add Outland Liberator/ Reclamation Sage, an additional Flagstones to the main, and a Gaddok Teeg to the sideboard. Hope to see this deck more in the future - it's definately not finished yet. :)

When a deck is named after a singular game warping effect, the deck typically struggles without it. I can't imagine a game where you are cutting stasis, even vs elves, I'm not sure what else your gameplan would be besides maybe trying to make a huge EoT brainfreeze or something?
@fpawluszmtg
@fpawluszmtg Күн бұрын
The Splinter Twin decks in Modern famously cut all their Splinter Twins against matchups like Jund in favor of cards like Keranos that were hard for the Jund decks to deal with. Same is true for Amulet Titan and other Modern decks that I have played in the past, so I personally think that the heuristic of "if a deck is named after a card you never board it out" hurts more than it helps and can hinder growth as a player. That being said, I could definitely see boarding out Stasis being wrong, clearly I have no idea of how to play this deck 😅
@3o7Mian
@3o7Mian Күн бұрын
I’d argue modern naming conventions don’t apply. Nor do modern cards. A better example might be oath, but typically those decks have manual ways to enable them (now). Flash is another good counter point. It was only briefly legal while good but it often just turned into countertop. I would also not say either of those modern decks have game warping cards on the level of stasis. Skipping a major phase of the game is quite a bit more than “make a copy of a thing.” or "put more lands into play." The previous statement wasn’t to say your wrong about not taking it out, but just that when a deck is *this* reliant on stasis to win, I’m not sure if it’s ever correct. I genuinely can’t recall ever winning a game with stasis without the namesake

Awesome! Love your videos!! IMHO, Disrupting Scepter is better for killing Stasis than Claws of Gix. Despotic Scepter doesn't require a mana to activate, therefore you can cast it early in the game (before your Stasis comes out) activate it for free anytime. Gix requires a mana to activate and that mana would be better for supporting Stasis another turn. I run Howling Mine. Not sure if that's the best card though.
