I just sort of drape the yarn over my non dominant index and hold it lightly against my palm with the ring and/or pinky. I use thumb and middle finger to hold my project. Also, I've seen people crochet with the "pencil" grip on the hook and it looks wild to me. I don't understand how it works 😂

Clover has been the best investment! They are light, cushioned, and the brushed aluminum glides easily through any yarn. Best money spent!!

Thanks for this valuable information! I messed my back up trying to obsessively finish a project while sitting with bad posture. I agree, it is very important to take breaks. 🎉

If they aren't secure enough on their own just glue them, you don't want to inhale burning plastic fumes and it's safer than any tools hot enough to melt the plastic. And if you really want to melt plastic that isn't supposed to be melted do it in a well ventilated area like outside, and you should probably wear a mask. And of course be careful with hot objects.

My index knuckle developed arthritis this year.. So, I have to hold a bit differently. I too like the clover hooks... I like the flatness as it's easier tonhold with no extra pressure into the finger. I've berm told that I crochet weird because I hold the hook and the yarn tension in the same hand with the other holding my project. The stretches are great... I just need to remember to do them. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much for the helpful tips.❤❤ I would like to add one tip, use a nursing doughnut pillow to rest your elbows, forearms, and work on. I have seen crochet pillows for sale at $60-$80, and I was able to get a nursing pillow at a second-hand store for $15, and they do the same job. Again thank you for the great tips❤❤❤

I feel it's too late for me, been doing different crafting throughout my life & im now 42 & decided to try crocheting again, unfortunately my hands hurt a lot, my tension is too tight & I most likely forget to be more aware, I also have fibromyalgia so I feel like I dont have a chance, lol. I also feel sore throughout my body continuously due to fibromyalgia, etc. but i really love crafting & my new love for crochet.

Thank you for coming back. Right to the point, yes, long videos preferably. Decor and making classic items. Please, no politics or mental health. There is enough of that out there. Making and creating a comfortable home is what I look forward to when watching.

If your shoulders and neck tend to get sore, crochet with a cushion on your knee - this raises your hands so you're not bending over your work.

I usually now switch between three different grips: knife, pencil, and knuckle. The knuckle-grip evolved from the pencil-grip, because hypermobility is f u n and my pointer fingertip likes to bend backwards! XD

Great video! I learned along the way to adjust the tension of my left hand hence I don't have that stiffed shoulder. On top of that, I bought alot of beauty blender and that was my game changer in 2024 as I can have my "ergonomic" crochet hook handle at any size. I made a hole in the center of the beauty blender sponge, then inserted crochet hook into the hole of the beauty blender. Adjust the beauty blender to fit the handle of the crochet hook accordingly. I also purchased back a nursing pillow so I could just rest my arms while sitting and crocheting. May our wrist, shoulder and neck suffer less in 2025😅

Maybe its weird but I will switch between sitting and standing while crocheting. And when Im standing up I will consiously keep my hands low around my bellybutton and while Im working on a project Ill relax my muscles and watxh my posture, so straight up but relaxed and then relax my shoulders while im working and then add my arms to the mix and then my hands. Which usually means i have to slow down first and then get consious about my hands. And because Im standing up and keeping my hands low I get a more distant view of my hands and what Im doing and I can suddenly see for myself where the tension in my hands is. And then Ill try to figure out how to relax that part of my hands more. And Ive learned that there is a certain optimal speed at which I can best relax my hands because my hands are then working on autopilot and that means I can "relax into the movement". I dont know how else to explain it.

I find when using chunky yarn my hands hurt more. Any advice on how to crochet chunky - 6 weight yarn? Also. I use the clover soft touch hooks but they stop at a 6mm. The other clover hooks are close but not the same. 😢
