I got my first bike last year, and its a liter sports bike. I even took it on dirt roads and stuff like that, trying to figure out what kind of riding is most fun and enjoyable. And its cool, its definitely nice to have all the power to do whatever you want, but most enjoyment I ever had, was just rolling around on country roads without speeding that much or at all. Made me understand that just seat time and riding all year long without problems is most important, rather than few bursts of adrenaline when your bike finally runs right

Do you ever worry about something with long hairy arms reaching out and grabbing you while riding at night? Once, while I was riding in the evening, something broke a perfectly healthy 3-inch thick tree in two from a hill above me and threw it in my path. I had to stop. When I looked up the hill, I could see that the tree trunk was shredded. No sight of what broke it and threw it. I scurried out of there as fast as I could.

I run 8 psi in the stock rear tire always but have dropped it down to 4 psi for extra traction on rocky climbs. I run 6 psi in the front tire, a Pirelli Scorpion 130/80 knobby because it has a very stiff sidewall. I weigh 190 without gear. I have two of the self contained air pumps and they are excellent, if you get a good brand. One of mine died after about 12 uses but the other is going strong so far. The dead one I did an autopsy on and it threw a rod. It looks like the snap ring that kept the connecting rod on to the crank was not installed at the factory. Installing a new (tiny!) snap ring did not fix it, the piston had damaged the cylinder wall too much when the rod came loose and the crank pin beat on it. Trashed. I also carry an electric jump starter and it is great insurance. I have tested all 7 of my pressure gauges and none of them read the same.
@TDubsKid6 күн бұрын
Good to know about the tire pressure im sure the really low pressure is a joy off road, maybe the big tires help from getting a pinch flat. Wow! Hopefully this one will last, crazy how it was missing a part from the factory! Kind of a roll of the dice, a jump starter is good insurance

Good to see you're still around. Your channel inspired me to get my KLX230 S and I've been happily without a car for 2 years. How many miles do you have? I'm pushing 8500 miles and I bought it new. I hope to take mine long distance after I mod the seat and get my rear rack. I've been hundreds of miles across the tri-state area(PA, MD, WV) on the east coast. It's been a great, reliable vehicle so far with maintenance.

@@therealrealshocker Hell yeah. It was pay for a small personal loan between 100-200 a month plus 25 in insurance or pay 600-800 a month plus another 100-200 in insurance. That's with good credit for a car that already has 100k miles. Forget those slave mobiles. I can repair everything on a small bike myself. Maintenance is dirt cheap and easy. I really wanna get a Honda Ruckus or even a Honda Navi too. Those little engines last forever with the right maintenance. People have literally toured across the country on a Ruckus. You just need A LOT of spare time.

Nothing compares to going fast on a small bike. Have a sub buddy.

I usually ride mine on trails like that around 10-12 psi, much better off road and on gravel roads, lot's less squirmy on gravel. I also have the Bradley ATV rear kit, you really need to get this, it's a game changer, ton's of traction more stable and softer ride. My front is an IRC TR8. Great on trails like that. Funny thing I almost bought that same pump a couple of months ago. I have one that will plug into my battery cable connector, but have to run the bike so it doesn't drain my battery. Great vid, glad your back!!!!

Interesting video! I've never reduced air pressure either, so I am learning from your experience. I'd like to get more traction at times in loose sand & gravel, so if you can give a demonstration under those conditions too(?) that would be interesting. The pump & jump starter combo could be handy for this softer ride; I just carry a simple foot pump.

Great test! Thank you for reminding me what places I didn't enjoy the TW, on super rocky sketchy jeep trails, especially when steeper or a nearby ledge. The suspension does not eat much. I tried airing down a little, but not much because I ride to the trail, and I didn't notice much difference. I don't remember the pressure but probably not enough. Maybe it was from 22-25 down to 18. I took a weird approach to this problem and picked a PSI right in the middle, with a bias for the on road stuff. For my bike it's 25 front, 29 rear. Maybe if I was planning on spending all day offroad, I'd air down to proper offroad pressures, but I usually end up doing 70/30 type riding so I prefer the high mpg and long tire life to added grip offroad.
