So much work, hang in there it's been quite a journey. Not many people would even start a project like this, never mind to keep going after so many dead ends. I have to watch to completion now.

Russ, its much easier to dismantle and rebuild, then trying to patch and level standing walls. Smart move. The cabin will be done right and long lasting. Stay safe my friend.

You amaze me. You started down one path with the cabin, realized you needed to change direction and did with the same enthusiasm. You did not get discouraged but picked up and just kept going. Such a positive family.

Hi Russ, now you’re getting it down , pretty well. I note a comment about council codes, in my area if you put up 2 posts and add a beam, it is a structure and needs a permit as the structure needs approval. But along with that is the money grab, the mandatory fees, oh and by the way an engineer detailed report as to the strength of the structure. Bureaucracy gone crazy is how I see it. But more about your cabin, this is getting to the more interesting phase, the footings and reconstruction. I am curious about how this will go for you. Did you see any more of the snake in the chimney? Stay safe and take care.

thank you for the information . I haven't seen the snake yet but previously I have seen it multiple of times around the chimney , I suspect this snakes hides somewhere in the rocks. thank you for watching.

Will you make the second floor back like the original cabin before the modern remodeling? I think part of the problems with the stability is because they cut down the floor size of the 2nd floor to make a more open area.

Perhaps South Carolina has grants or volunteers groups that would want to financially or help in other ways to restore a historic building

I am sure there must be some kind of historical record on the deed concerning the cabin and the original owners of the property. (pre 1970s) The Bath tub is @ 1912 and it was obviously refurbished in the 1930's the 40's and the 60's. But dating it back to the 1700s is stretching it unless there is some kind of survey of the property showing the cabin before 1800 and if there is , who lived there? Kinda far Fetched to think it has been there since before 1850 in my opinion, but if it was there will be a prominent name attached to it.
@thezaytsevs
@thezaytsevs 2 ай бұрын
That's a fair point, and I appreciate the skepticism-it’s always good to question historical claims. From what I’ve gathered, there are some intriguing leads tied to the property, but definitive records pre-1850 are admittedly hard to come by. The architectural features and materials suggest an older origin, but without solid documentation, it’s difficult to pin down exact dates or original owners. The house next to this cabin, built in 1801, provides some historical context about the property and its owners. From what I’ve gathered, it strongly suggests that this cabin was the first structure on the land. There’s evidence pointing to it possibly being repurposed as slave quarters after the larger house-about 500 feet away-was completed. This property was part of a plantation, and I’m still piecing together the details. As I uncover more, I’ll be sure to share an updated video diving deeper into its history.

Don’t worry, Jimmy. I wasn’t planning on having her help with these logs. It’s easier this way, and I’d rather not risk my wife getting hurt. If I need extra help with lifting logs during the rebuild, I’ll make sure to get it.

I'm sure you have talked to the local building commission in your county because now you have to build it to your local building codes. It is no longer just repairing; it will be a complete build. You will not be able to build it back like the ole timers did. You ruined the historical significance of the log cabin IMO.
@thezaytsevs
@thezaytsevs 2 ай бұрын
I see your point, and while I agree to some extent, I also see it differently. If I left it as it was, it wouldn’t hold up for long. By rebuilding this way, we’re ensuring it will stand strong for many years to come. I’ve seen plenty of similar projects that still maintain their historical significance, and that’s exactly what I hope to achieve here
@speedyg2577
@speedyg2577 2 ай бұрын
@@thezaytsevs I understand, the county is going to want to be involved and for sure make you jump through some big hoops and want their cut $$$. I have never heard you mention if the house is a registered historical homestead. I hope you are contacting your county or whatever form of govt. body you have there because you really can't do this on the down low while documenting every step on your youtube channel. They will find out and you will get a cease and desist along with a hefty fine. You will need architectural drawings and build plan approved. In my county you need to submit a drawing plan and get permits to put up a storage shed or fence. You don't need the feds knocking on your door, throwing a wrench in your plan. Take care.

@@thezaytsevs Russ, you may live in the country, but you are in a county's jurisdiction and have to abide by their building and planning laws. I can't believe they don't ask much. Any plumbing, electrical, hvac should require a licensed professional to install and will need to be inspected, that's just the way things work. And if you plan on using wood pegs to hold the logs together that will probably be no bueno, not exactly current building codes. You tore it down to the ground you can't just build it back without following current building codes.
