I like the idea of this, I am not sold on ChefsTemp. I have the ChefsTemp ProTemp Plus and it drops connection all the time. I also cannot trust the readings. it will swing 15+- from my InkBird which works great. Maybe I have a bad unit, but so far, not a company I could endorse.
@GrillSergeant18 сағат бұрын
That's why I like how you can calibrate the S1. I can take something like a wired temp probe that I trust and tune the S1 to that.
@CarlosAlvarez-hw1je20 сағат бұрын
Adding all of these things, might as well get a pellet grill. I monitor temps at grate level by adding a thermometer on a clip. Also meater and other wireless probes will give you ambient temp.

Maybe I'm just a nerd for thinking it's cool to check my offset pit temp from my iWatch. lol To each there own.

Seems like a ton of work and a ton of money. What would have helped is if there was a comparison. Ribs cooked without those devices, ribs cooked with them to compare the accuracy of the device and/or its effectiveness. Otherwise, that's a lot of money for 3D printed things.
@GrillSergeant22 сағат бұрын
Offset ribs are going to be amazing either way. Why I love the S1 is because it is an extremely affordable way to monitor temps and help with the bbq process. For me it's convenience. If you spend 12-16 hours managing an offset fire you will see that the S1 is worth it's weight in gold.
@kevincrane131022 сағат бұрын
A ton of money? It's $69 for a smart gauge. Some analog gauges cost that much and more! But.. as he shows.. it's more than just a gauge... can hook wireless probes to it.. a breezos fan controller to it. This is a game changer!
@GrillSergeant18 сағат бұрын
@@kevincrane1310 Lol...I was going to say...I would expect this product to cost more! lol

Can’t you get those same features on a MEATER probe (or similar) but you also get the temp of the meat?
@GrillSergeant23 сағат бұрын
Great question! One issue I was having is keeping connection once I close my smoker lid. My offset chamber is dual wall 1/4" steel with insulation in between so it kills the connection to most of my wireless probes. Seeing as the S1 can sit outside the smoker and replace one of the gauges, I can now monitor my offset via WiFi from across town if I needed too. Also, the ChefsTemp S1 is $69 bucks so it's a lot cheaper than picking up most probes if you are just looking into monitoring ambient temps.
@931tow21 сағат бұрын
I use the Meater+ in both of my smokers and it works great . One is the Chargriller Akorn which is double wall steel and my Pitboss vertical. No problems using it with either . I never check my thermometers in them anymore. I also had the Digi-Q which is a blower type and was a waste of $300. Spent $42 on a Tip Top Temp control for my Akorn and it works flawlessly... Not trying to dump on this product but it seems to be a redundant device with other ones doing a better job . I enjoy product reviews but this doesn't seem to be worth it in my opinion... For what it's worth 😊
@drewmiller703019 сағат бұрын
@@GrillSergeant Doesn't the ChefsTemp ProTemp Plus probe system that you've previously covered have this capability? I guess the S1 would be better if you're not probing your meat directly?
@GrillSergeant18 сағат бұрын
@@drewmiller7030 The ambient temp ranges on the meat probes were 122°F -662°F. The new S1 does 50°F - 1000°F - that is extremely helpful when collecting data from a smoker or grill I'm testing out.

in my experience cooking whole turkeys, chickens, cornish hens and ducks, if the meat on the end of the drumstick recedes that much, your breast meat is usually overcooked

What was the point of adjusting the P setting if you just adjusted the temp to 375 anyways which is way higher than any P setting.

You will get some temp swings BUT you will get more smoke in smoke mode even at higher temps.

Interesting. I have the Austin XL Onyx and when I adjust the P settings it adjusted the temp so when I crank it up to 375 it takes it out of the P settings. Maybe it's just my model.

Where did you buy two additional probes for the ChefsTemp Pro Temp Plus? And one short probe. I see that only the base with one long probe is available for sale.

Great comparison! It would be ideal to check the accuracy of the measurement. I checked when boiling water and none of the thermometers showed 212 degrees. Some thermometers stayed at 203 degrees, some at 208-209.
