My buddy had a red one back in 96. That was one of the first cars that introduced me to the idea that compact imports could be sporty. Loved that car. I went looking for something for myself and ended up getting a 88 chevy spectrum turbo. Essentially a rebadged isuzu imark. Another cool forgotten import.

Hii! :) I love your Corolla, and I'm so happy you check in time by time. Your love and hard work gave this Toyota a new life, another chance to shine and it surely DOES! ;) You literally saved it from slow, but certain death. I'm sure your mom sees it from above, and she must be really happy for you <3 The best thing is that I feel every momentum of your story. I also have a "little champ", a 1990 Mazda 323 hatchback. Kinda similar fashion as this Corolla. In 2020-21 (as many others) I had my worst time of my life. My life changed so suddenly, I basically was left alone. I decided I need a "mate" who helps me escape from the madness of this world. So I bought the Mazda 323. It was in one piece but needed quite some work. It was used as like a 15th choice rental car, and no one showed mercy to it. I bought it at a fairly cheap price, and I was able to drive it home. It had a leaky radiator, damaged ignition cables, the front-left was hit (especially the suspension), so the suspension/steering was all over the place, the front-left quarterpanel was bent and penetrated, the left taillight was broken, the interior was nasty, full of years worth of cigarette smoke, broken door panels, rips on the driver's seat etc.. and some minor plastic elements were missing. I've found out the hardest part was to find parts for it (especially body parts). I've gone to so many junkyards to find what I need. But I've "cured" all of it's issues, and surely my little Mazda is so grateful for giving it another chance to live as it never let me down, and still my loyal buddy. It is here for me anytime I need it. Actually we gave each other a reason to live and be happy. A new life so to speak. I imagine it like it's my little samurai retainer, who helps me through the tough times and never leaves me :D :) Whenever I park it between tons of new SUVs it stands out with it's beauty. It's a joy to look at it. I know many guys laugh at me (like duuude he drives a 100 years old sh!tbox) but I can only laugh as well, because my 323 will easily outlive any of their oversized plastic garbages. I can't be happier thank you, I enjoy driving my little pal. Driving alone at night, only the green dash light glows, I hear it's engine rumbling smoothly, gearbox is like a clockwork, as well as the clutch, comfortable seats like they are sofas, accurate tacktile steering, the whole car is like it was designed for me and built around me. Such a unique and pleasant experience. These Japanese cars from 70's-80's-90's and 00's are unbeatable. No matter what others say ;) So I feel what you feel towards your lovely Corolla. I would love to see you "guys" a lot more and I wish you many more happy years and miles together!

I love finding people online with a similar build because I can finally relate 😭. I have a 7age silvertop setup in an AT200 celica with the stock c52 and it’s been a mission. Your video about converting the tach to take ecu output saved my ass as I went coil on plug with a link monsoonx and was stuck as to what to do. I will say I have about the same issue with finding a tuner but thankfully I found someone local who was willing to give it a shot. I just (after about 2 years of work) got everything tied up and base tuned and out of my personal, and somewhat limited, drive time that low end power is seemingly a tad low with the tomei poncams I put in. Definitely take that with a grain of salt as it’s still just a base tune although I can certainly tell it loves 2.5k+ rpm but is a bit reluctant below that so far. Additionally, I do have it running on 7 psi off of the cheapest universal turbo money can buy and went a bit ambitious with the largest throttle body Barry would throw on his plenum (72mm) but it’s impossible not to smile driving it. However, I am wondering if you run vacuum assisted brakes or have a manual brake setup. For whatever reason my setup refuses to pull a half decent vacuum and my vacuum assist is completely limp. Kinda terrifying trying to pull up to a red light and you have to be ready for half of the pedal to be slop or for it to be a brick wall immediately with piss poor braking performance either way. Regardless, I love the informative content and the backroads drives are my go to whenever showing a buddy the symphony of the 4age. Keep it up man 🙏

Regarding to the Link ECU. Have you talked with Matt and is brother from Panic Made (@panicmade)? They sell that brand of ECUs and know 4AGE engines like the palm of their hand 😄 maybe they can help fine tuning yours. Thanks for sharing the story behind that little pocket rocket 😄 I'm also a big fan of that model!

Rewatching these videos as my inspiration to mess with my 4A-FE raised it's head again :D One of the drawbacks on all of these 4A-(F/G)E engines is the lack of space in front of the engine. It's a pain in the butt to get that exhaust out of there, and the oil filter is not in much better position either...

I feel like all 80’s 4age powered cars were something special. I love driving my aw11’s. The only thing I need is now a 20v BT. The fx16’s are truly the underdogs though. They are overshadowed by the 86 and the mr2’s. I’ve seen a few around $4k complete in decent shape which is honestly cheap for running japanese cars of that era on marketplace

I had an ‘87 Fox-16 that ran flawlessly EXCEPT that it smoked like a freight train due to worn rings. Bought it from my Next door neighbor(he was a mechanic too) for 90 dollars back in 2002. Ran it for a year until the timing belt broke. Was a broke college student so I left it on the side of the road.
