The 4age blacktop comes with a pretty light flywheel, 5.5kg. I think any lighter and it would be hard to drive on the street.

I ALMOST bought one of these 2 days ago but it was the base fx16 that someone had put GT-S parts on. It was a beauty but it wasn't cheap and i was afraid when i got ready to sell no one would want what was basically a GT-S clone minus the body kit and roof spoiler. I immediately regretted passing on it and pissing the owner off. Beautiful car btw.

Hey Sush, keep up the good work. I highly recommend doing cams next. A nice set of Cams from Tomei, TecArts, or Kelford will net you 20+ HP easy. However you will also need to upgrade your valve springs. Good luck with whatever you do next.

You can absolutely see how good the car handles now compared to older videos, just looking from outside. I have this weird thing, i watch how cars take the corners and i can say if something is wrong or needs to be better, its just wierd to notice the motions that cars make.

What about a lightened crank, ported & polished head & maybe a custom cold air intake(which I can suggest a new strategy at doing)? O.O (as well as a list of all of your current mods, so I don't make an arse of myself by repeating things already done... o.O ---> You can save the list as a note & copy\paste it whenever you request mod suggestions in a video... =P)

I do love the factory seats but something that holds me in better would be nice! The Corolla spent most of 2020 sitting while I was working on all the upgrades. 2021 will be a driving year!

You answered an age old question I had. Economy cars from the late 80s and early 90s are always criticized for the lazy and mushy steering feel. A full rotation shorter is amazing.

Thanks Bryan. The thing i've been told to keep an eye out for is if you have a LHD rack, you need a RHD steering pinion. If it's a RHD rack, you need a LHD pinion. Good luck and thanks for the comment!

I’m rocking stock seats. I had them reupholstered so they’re great to sit in. I am exploring dropping in a racing seat as the car has become too fast to keep me in place.

Alright... I'm gonna have to do this rack swap. The T3 tie rod ends are super boss too. I just did coilover threads sitting on the OEM perch with 250# springs this weekend. I feel that "magic" you speak of. Adding more spring to the front end gives it like 15 more horsepower because it can put it down on the ground better out of a corner. Still waiting to see if my body can take the punishment of 250F/350R springs at rallycross :)

The T3 tie rod ends really are the bees knees, especially compared to the regular end. I think the body will be fine as long as you stay off the bump stops.

I think weight reduction and chassis reinforcement would improve the feeling of the car and it wouldn't be too expensive. Something like a half cage and a strut brace, removing the back seats, removing sound deadening, getting nice racing seats for the front, lighter exhaust system if you haven't done so already

best up grade is cylinder head work, I have done heaps, unfortunately there is a lot of maths and skill involved ....but you could spend time matching every flange on the IN side, so that the ports have NO mismatch from head to trumpet get a shop to give the IN seats a 3 or 5 angle seat job, if you keen, you can use a small flapper wheel of about 120 grit to smooth out any bad looking defects, but do not take too much material out ! making the ports bigger without doing the maths can be detrimental to HP The biggest hiccup in posts is usually a little bit down from the seats, where the port meets and more often than not leaves quite a sharp edge, put a 2 > 3 mm radius here, with out taking material from the port changing cams will just move the power curve up or down the rev range

@@sushpants With 4-point seat belts it is not so important, because the weight of your body is supported by the belts. But with OEM seat belts some times you need support from the steering wheel for your left hand, because right hand is changing gears and both feets are busy with all three pedals at the same time.

The 4AGE blacktop already comes with a pretty light flywheel. It's 5.5kg I believe and any lighter would be hard to drive on the street.

Hey sushpants, do you have a full parts list of all the new remanufactured parts I can get for this car? I have the exact same 1987 Toyota Corolla FX-16 GTS and I really want to save it and bring it back to its former glory. It's got a bucket list of issues, but I live in the south so there are no critical issues like rust, and I haven't found any frame damage. If I have to go through all your videos to find out that's fine, but I thought that you might have a list. Thanks, and I hope to see more videos on this car!

so you want some ideas for your touge car, here's one 7age build N/A, big brake kit or more aggressive braking parts, stainless steel brake lines, short shifter, or even go full polyurethane but no matter where u take the car ill keep on watching.

Did you have any issues with the length of your steering column/rack mating surface etc? I used the fast rack from a AE111 BZR (2.6t) and swapped it into my AE92 FXGT. Let's just say it wasn't a direct fit, it fits, but not perfectly, my steering column needs to be longer and I'm not sure if it's my U-joints but, it definitely feels notchy

Just an update for anyone that goes to Steve's shop. He has really fallen off and damaged my brz's coilovers. I went to get my alignment checked which was only slightly off and left with deep groves and scratches in the top hats. Just ridiculous stuff. I was standing right in front as he was doing the aligment and whenever he was confused never asked me anything. Dont take a car you car about there.

I think as long as your rack is a Koyo unit it should work. If you check on my part 1 from this series, I pulled the rack from a ZZE110.

I just got hold of a PS Rack from an AE92 Levin GT-Z, 2.5 turns lock to lock. It will be going on to my1991 AE92 Corolla Gti 16v (UK) The original PS Rack was around 3.7 turns L2 L, so it should improve the steering feel . I also have fitted Eibach progressive spring kit, so it will be interesting to see how it all works out. I have to say that fitting Poly bushes was the worst thing that I ever did to my corolla imo, they totally destroyed the ride quality

The new rack has the same travel as the original (both racks are same length). Steering angle seems to be unchanged, but it's already pretty decent.

I think they should so long as you have a Koyo rack. The current rack is out of ZZE110 (check out part 1 from the series)
