Those AE82s are rarer than rare in Japan now from what I've been told. You could probably count good condition cars on your fingers and toes. Pretty sure 90% of them ended up in New Zealand in the 1990s and early 2000s.

@@doctorunicorn5550 You never hear him rev it to the limit here, but if it's a stock car I guarantee it'll end at 7500rpm regardless what the revgauge says. There were closer to 7-8 variants and that's just the N/A's, if we count the various types of superchargers fitted to all combinations of 16v engine blocks and heads we're at closer to 12-13. 20v Silvertop was the first 20 valve to come out, in 1991, that's 4 years after AE82 production ended. They kept the higher rev-gauges for people modifying their cars for motorsport, basically a gesture by Toyota "here you go, no need to install a revgauge". Motorsport was a key aspect of what the 16v rolla's were about (RWD and FWD). Production of the AE82 ended before a higher reving (supported by Toyota dealerships) stock 4A-GE's could be supplied to road-going factory stock AE82's, but factory engines were certainly modified into screamers for race use, and they probably foresaw enthusiasts swapping in newer engines with time as well, thus, the higher rev-gauges ^^
