i don't know if you mentionned it, I was cooking while watching, but the iron masked prisonner has a precedent in history. There is a story about an unknown prisonner under Louis XIV's reign who was shackled and wore an iron mask, similar to the one portrayed on the elden ring prisonner, however I don't recall any mention of his eye being shut. Lots of stories went around him, one even talking about a secret twin brother to the king, a perfect look alike and so on

My take on this is that the title and knowledge of a formal “dovakin” is only recorded historically as it would be present for other daedra or godly worship; the key here is the way the avatars for all of the gods and daedra appear; shards or split reincarnations of the gods to carry out their bidding. Therefore the dovakin soul in mortals could have existed as soon as Alduin strayed from his path and akatosh would need to correct this through spiritual intervention.

18:21 - This is probably just a callback/Easter egg, but does anyone else notice the similarities between Mesmer’s empty eye socket and the Dark Sign? The flame around an empty ring, the connection to Darkness (Abyss)? I think that’s a really neat detail. Even the connection to Serpents, like the Primordial Serpents in DS1! Frampt! Kaathe! The Abyss! FromSoftware is truly the GOAT of videogame lore creation.

Weapon/Magic use underwater isn't unrealistic, and I agree it should be implemented in some way. However, fantasy or not, some form of realism is paramount. There needs to be rules to a world, otherwise anything can happen any time, there's no stakes at all, and everything is bullshit. Fantasy and realism are NOT mutually exclusive.

Totally agree, I like my fantasy to be a bit grounded. You do absolutely need rules.

I think death is required for the flame of frenzy to take over its host. That's why Midra wasn't killed. It's why he becomes Lord after beheading himself.
