I’m an Aussie and my father had this! His grandfather was from Austria, a German Jew, who escaped to Australia just before the war. I’m wondering if there is Viking there? I doubt it though. His grandmother was from Ireland, so that’s more likely.

There is no end to the number of labels physicians can come up with to help explain someone's condition which they are sometimes changing too while very few physicians have enough time and hindsight years to take an adequate medical history after an elderly person has been sent to them because their family doctor retired. Unless they are a professor too. Dupedrons disease or instead only Keloid scarring in people like really old farmer's wives and old now farmers daughters too while biases about fragile white women still do exist.

Divorce caused my plantar fasciitis. I am only partly joking. We had two beagles, and they needed to be taken on long walks several times a day. I did the morning and evening walks, and my wife did the two mid-day walks. When she left me, the dogs stayed with me, I was suddenly responsible for all four walks, half an hour each, totalling two hours of brisk walking a day. After just a few weeks of this, I started to experience foot pain, which turned out to be plantar fasciitis. This has been going on for at least six month now. Since my dogs do need their walks several times a day, I can't see much chance of cutting down on the exercise load, unfortunately. I will try using the other fine methods, such as shoe inserts, stretches, and splints, and hope they help.

If I am having a bout with thumb pain and spasms, I apply an Icy Hot or capsaicin cream at night, next place a mitten warmer inside a thumb or wrist support where the base of my thumb will rest . Caution to put several layers of tissue or cloth between the mitten warmer and skin, so that it all is not too hot. If it feels too hot after the mitten warmer has heated up, or if the skin is too red, add more layers in between and loosen up the support straps. I find the deep heat very comforting and healing. Several nights of,this really helps. Just again be careful that it doesn't get too hot while you are sleeping.

About 5 years ago at age 59 my pinky on my right hand had a very severe bend in it. I had the injection of Xiaflex done and it worked somewhat. I had to have a second injection a couple of years later. It's not perfect, but considerably better. Now I'm having the same issue with my left pinky, and it's also starting to affect my right index finger. I'm considering the surgical option for it this time. I'd post a picture but KZbin does not permit that. Thank you for the video and your descriptions of the options.

Nice to know about the Viking link, having been born in East Anglia with relatives going back many generations. Think i can say that I have a Viking gene in my system. Interestingly my condition started in my mid thirties and then stopped getting any worse, as i am now in my mid sixties sounds like it might start to progress again?

@PhysioMSK2 күн бұрын
It might not be Dupuytren’s. This condition does fuse the fingers. You can always bend them normally. You just can’t straighten them fully. Best get it checked out. Might be finger arthritis.

Fortunately for me , apart from a bit of an exaggerated ‘bowl’ in the palms and curve to the little fingers my hands have stayed pretty much the same and I’m 87 now! This is the first time I’ve seen any info or helpful videos on the subject, so thank you - really appreciate it. 👍❤️😁

@PhysioMSK2 күн бұрын
When it occurs in the foot its called 'Ledderhosens disease' or 'Plantar fibroma'. We don't know for sure whether its the same genetics involved in Dupuytren's.

Make a cuppa very hot tea, now between sips place the hot outerside of the cup against the noodles on the inside of the palm on the nodles and keep the hot cup there until the pain tells you other wise do this a few times over some days and bingo the lumbes in your hand will have gone, but if a finger is already bent this procedure won't straighten a finger but stop any more others developing. Ron.

I'm 66, Dupuytrens on right hand ring finger medically diagnosed at 62. It was pulling the finger inwards at the knuckle joint, lumpy & was quite painful. Went Carnivore the same year, no more carbs, sugar, fructose and after a year the D band had more than halved in size. Has continued to shrink. When stretching my palm and fingers out flat the 'band is almost no longer noticeable. NO medical intervention required and its now almost invisible. Carnivore has also reversed a raft of other health issues i had & proves to me we are what we eat. Cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿 💚🌏💚

It might the STT joint or the wrist joint now. I would at least get an X-ray and talk to someone about your options. The surgery can work very well but injection and splints can help also. You need a proper diagnosis first though.

Yes, I am of Scottish ancestry, and one of the tales was that a Norse prince shipwrecked on the isle of Lewis, and became our great great grandfather. I thought this story fascinating and quaint , until my Father got severe Dupuytren's contracture in both hands. This required surgery to fix. Since then I have a propensity to raid places and wear a hat with horns. Also have Swedish blood.

Odins Blood! What a great video. I have this condition and will be attending an orthopaedic unit at the local hospital in a few days time. I would say I have an more advanced problem as I can’t lay my palm flat.. if I played a lot of snooker it would be of some use but as I don't these days it’s time to get things sorted. I began to notice these pits in my right hand but this hasn’t advanced a great deal. A pit formed on my left hand a couple of years later and this has progressed to finger bending and I am at the stage of having problems putting my hand in my jeans pockets etc. I also experienced numbing of my finger when I sleep sometimes although not sure that is directly related to this condition.
@PhysioMSK2 күн бұрын
Numbness is not normally a symptom but its possible that one of small digital nerve has got tied up in your Dupuytren's tissue. I'm sure they will discuss your options with you next week.

I'm 72-years-old today, I used to have severe hip, joint and thump pain. I didn't want to take aspirin all day. Since I was 60, I have been taking Turmeric every day. I have not had ANY joint pain or mobility problems of any kind. I ride a bike, I race walk every day for 1/2 hour and have no pain. I started the Turmeric right when the pains began. I pay about $10 for a bottle of 740mg, 250 capsules and I don't get it from Costco, too expensive. It's been a life saver. Plus I have 1/2 a banana everyday for my Sciatica pain, the pain is gone.. That's all it took to solve that issue. I am not on any medications. I suggest you start early if you want to try Turmeric because once the pain has been going on for years there's not much you can do. Turmeric rebuilds the "cushion" within the joints that normally will wear away with age.

I’m 76 and have had DC for 10 or 15 yrs. My father (from Coventry, and with French Huguenot ancestry) had it. My mum had severe arthritis, as I do, but never mentioned DC as such, though her ancestry is solid Yorkshire. I notice that I saw only one comment on here that mentioned the possible Neanderthal origin of the DC dna, though at least one video on Utube suggested this. On balance, I think it sounds a lot better to be associated with Vikings than Neanderthals! (though I suppose it might be both?).
