Very sad news. Our beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet, died this morning (25th November 2024), somewhere around 9am. The shocking discovery in early October, that HE was actually a SHE, when she laid 2 eggs for the first time in all these years, definitely had a huge negative impact on her - she went through periods of looking like she was about to die, to miraculously picking up again - back to her old self; dancing, eating well, and interacting with her many visitors; even sharing her apples through the cage with her best friend. Bobo came to me as a baby wild lorikeet, the very day after my mum died (read into that whatever you like)...My longer-term youtube subscribers would be very familiar with her; especially with her tweeting in the background when I filmed at home. Throughout all these years; she was a much loved and reassuring daily companion to have around...Her presence here gained her celebrity status I'm sure, among the many birds visitors at home - they all seemed to know her. I feel sad also, not just for us; but for her one particular rainbow lorikeet mate, who I simply called 'BoBo's friend'; that spent hours on and off almost daily over the last few years - sitting very nearby to her - they had a special bond, and I know her friend will certainly miss her as well. BoBo today will join her former neighbour 'Bird', who died in 2018, in the garden; where our cat family also lays in peace. BoBo obviously, will be very sadly missed... Which lady, and which man? If you give me a timestamp of where in the video they are (because there were a lot of deaths), I'll look them up in the notes I kept - It's very likely I mention the years in the video, although some people have had issues hearing my narration above certain parts of the music (I will be making a voice only version of this video in the very near future). The music indeed IS a remix, of 'Picnic at hanging Rock' - 'Ascent Theme Music with Whoosh!' Used with the kind permission of Elektrik Hob;www.youtube.com/@ElektrikHob

We have loads of both of these delightful birds here, as you can imagine! Our main concern, however, is trying to stop the Peewees from slamming into the windows and getting hurt! They are like little Kamikazes! (It's awful!!!) I clocked that noisy little bugger on your railing, (the Noisy Minor,) and I'm happy to say that we DON'T have them on our property, they mainly stick to the areas around town. I recall the time that I was sitting in the garden of the local private hospital after a minor procedure and there were about a dozen of them, scrapping over something, what a bloody cacophony that was! They are right up there with the "Rainbow Lorikeets, Correllas, and Sulpher Crested Cockies," on the decibel meter! You see, where we live, it's very quiet and serene, no traffic noise, no noise from neighbours, none of that. And when our feathered friends rock up, it's never just a few birds that come to visit, they come in huge flocks, which just amplifies the chaos! Anyhoo, I've been a bit tardy, my computer keyboard shat itself and some of the keys aren't working. I've had to fire up the ol' Macbook Pro, until I can get the computer to the guys in town to fix it. So...no cute emojis on this thing, love! (Smiling kissy face!) Cheers.

Yeah; it's kind of funny to watch them 'acting big and tough', as many animals do in that situation. 😅I _really_ appreciate that Garry, as I'm often reluctant to put many Magpie (& other birds) videos up, as I assume it isn't a topic many people search for, BUT: I guess I'll always share things like this in my life, for those of you that ARE interested! You said this wouldn't be of interest to most people. My good friend, I take exception to that assertion. Perhaps not to those who see them all the time. But, for those of that have never, nor will ever, see them, it is quite interesting. I watched most attentively. However, maybe it's just me, I still can't tell which is which.

Excerpt from, "Australian Wildlife, the Shocking Truth!" (Google it) The Magpie: Like so many Australian animals, the Magpie is a Jekyll and Hyde. For most of the year, the birds are fairly laid back and inoffensive creatures, and their warbling’s each morning and evening as they salute and farewell the sun is a welcome part of Aussie suburban life. However, come spring when the large mature birds mating season begins, they become highly aggressive and territorial and will fiercely defend their nesting trees. During this period, their calls strike terror into all who hear them! Younger, smaller Magpies are content to mostly laze about the suburbs, typically feeding on grubs and lizards. However, as they mature, these Magpies spread their wings (that can span as much as two meters) and seek the open spaces of the countryside and their tastes turn to larger game. This is usually not of concern to the human population with these larger birds prefer going after rabbits, bush pigs and the odd sheep or two. However in the mating season when their testosterone is at its peak, the Magpies become emboldened and while the younger birds content themselves with merely swooping and pecking at people, the big adults will often put household pets and even small children on the menu. This is a very funny and well-illustrated book, I think it's still available from Boolarong Press on line.
@SteveMackКүн бұрын
Apparently, also a VERY INNACURATE book! I assure you, having lived with them for years - "...Magpies spread their wings (that can span as much as two meters)...This is usually not of concern to the human population with these larger birds prefer going after rabbits, bush pigs and the odd sheep or two." is COMPLETE RUBBISH!!! 65 - 85 cm is the average wingspan of an Australian magpie, and as for "going after rabbits, bush pigs and the odd sheep or two"; *THAT is absolutely HILLARIOUS!!! These birds AREN'T anywhere NEAR that big!* ! 😅

That's ok mate - you're input is _much_ appreciated, as I was torn between including just the intro music in the re-edit, but some feedback has been from people who don't like the 'shrill' of the pan flute. There is a degree of mystique, in my opinion, about some of the unsolved reports that have occurred there, in recorded history. Yes, it was indeed a great film; the music of which always was on my mind when conceptualising this video. The film, I thought for many years, was based on a true story - then (decades ago now) when I saw an interview with the author of the 1967 novel (Joan Lindsay); she revealed that it was entirely fictitious (much to my dismay!), although there was an incident in the area long ago; it was nowhere on the scale of the portrayal of the story...
