As you probably noticed the campsites are very close together so at the campground Ranger was always on a leash…and hes always quiet, even if left alone. We did let him off leash in other areas where we were basically alone and no one seemed to have any issues. As long as you’re a responsible and considerate dog owner I think you’ll find all of Nfld is pretty dog friendly.

FYI day rates are cheaper than night crossings. You were on the day crossing. Cabins are scarce during night crossings. If you cant get a cabin I suggest bringing an inflatable mattress and the bigger tip I can give you is EARPLUGS. Lots of people aren't too respective of others and make noise all night.

I’m just watching your series on NFLD again this week and making notes as we are going back in June. (We did a 10 day tour with truck camper Sept ‘23 but now we have a tow behind) You mentioned no dump at Campground on Fogo, was there somewhere else to dump our did you have to wait to get back to mainland? Anyway great videos. Thanks

We read that there was a place to dump in the town of Seldom but as we were trying to get to the ferry as quickly as possible we just dumped at our next stop. We’ll also mention the Elliston Municipal Campground near Bonavista also has no dump station but there is one at the Ultramarine station in Bonavista. Hope this helps.

Thanks for info. One more thing as I start my planning and booking, it seems that I need to join ‘RV booking sites’ to book places on. I don’t remember that 2 years ago but maybe I just forgot…lol. But when you booked your campgrounds and ferries in NFLD, did you do it by phoning in or on line? Also we went in Sept (kinda off season), any other advice if we are going in June like you did? Again I’m trying to get this booked and I wanna make sure we don’t have disappointments or other setbacks by not covering all bases. (I know you mention to be ‘flexible’…). I have similar set up as you, you know with 1/2 ton pickup and 20’ tow behind. Thanks in advance for any info you provide. Looking forward to next video!

@@delta49 we booked the MA and Labrador ferries online (Fogo and Bell Island ferries are fcfs). Gros Morne CG was booked online on Parks Canada website. We booked Pippy Park by email (or link from their site) and Gander we booked by phone. I would mention that there are many areas with little to no cell service so keep that in mind when you’re on the road and might be wanting to book something for the next day. As for going in June, we went expecting terrible mosquitoes/black flies. It really wasnt near as bad as we expected ( not even as bad as here in Eastern Ontario…Tho there were some small blck flies with a nasty bite). You wont need to worry about raccoons, skunks or porcupines (there are none) and there are very few bears. Because of this many campgrounds have garbage cans right on the sites. And NL has no deer but they do have caribou and a huge moose population that requires extra vigilance when driving, especially at night or in fog/rain. And last tip, take good rain gear and clothes for cool temperatures. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Debbie, glad you’re enjoying the series! We love our Rockwood 2109s. On a level road with no headwind we would get between 9-11 mpg. I will say that when we are fully loaded, full water tank and truck bed filled with gear, we were pushing our 1500 close to its max payload. Obviously it handled it fine but we didn’t like being that close to the edge so we just ugraded to a Ram 2500 with the bigger gas hemi engine. We towed the trailer down to Virginia a few weeks ago a nd found the hd truck got better mileage while towing (10-12mpg) and obviously it wasn’t working near as hard. But of course the new truck gets worse mileage when not towing, especially around town. Hope this helps!

Terry and Cindy (and Ranger), thanks for taking us all along on this camping expedition. I seriously doubt we'd ever get up there so it is nice to be able to see it through your camera lens and perspective. I have to ask, do you wash the Ram and MiniLite before we see them in the video? They always look so clean, polished. I guess the bug population there is not near what it is down here. ~Jim
@TrueNorthCampingАй бұрын
Hi Jim, so glad you're enjoying the series! It really was a facinating expedition that we enjoyed every bit as much as the trek to Alaska. As for keeping the rig clean....I had a good chuckle at that. We do use a ceramic coating (made by turtle wax if you can believe it) on the trailer that does a pretty decent job of providing gloss and it definitely makes it easier to remove bugs (and black streaks) - which I did a few times during the trip just using a bucket of water and brush on the nose of the trailer. As for the truck, I was starting to go a bit crazy because we couldnt find many car washes in Newfoundland - it only got 2 washes in the 9 weeks we were away.....lol.
@JimMFishingАй бұрын
@ Terry, I have been using Meguire Marine Flagship on the MiniLite since I have been using it on the KW. I do use their ceramic product on the trucks and will give it a try on the MiniLite. The bugs are an issue here in Florida, especially in the spring and summer. And the black streaks appear no matter how much you clean the roof. Did we err with the white exterior?? Looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey!
@TrueNorthCampingАй бұрын
@ for us we really like the white colour scheme on the Rockwood…and we have lots of bugs here too that make a huge mess…but they really do seem to clean off much easier with the ceramic coating.

All excellent tips, and essentially basic common sense and respect of others. However, it seems that especially lately in many campgrounds that common sense is not so common. Mind you the vast majority of fellow campers are wonderful folks and very respectful, but it takes only a few to ruin things for many. All we can do is keep passing the message and hope that a few of the minority do eventually get it, but some folks seem to be in their own little bubble and don't seem to care about others... Continued safe travels and happy camping.....

The only route that might even be more beautiful than the Cabot Trail, is the drive around Quebec highway 132 of the Gaspe Penninsula. A much longer drive but just amazing. One thing for sure, when you tackle the Cabot Trail with your trailer in tow you need to understand that D is not the only position the transmission should be in. 1 and 2 come in very handy.... one might even say that if you don't use 1 and 2, you might end up doing 1 and 2. Soceity just gets less formal and more " who cares ". When I was a young child, in the 60's, I travelled with my family every weekend on the train to visit GrandMother. My Father worked for the Canadian National Railway, so the whole family could travel anywhere in Canada for free ...it was called " dead heading". My Mother would dress me for the train ride ... black shoes, black socks, black dress pants, white shirt buttoned to the top, with a black tie on at all times. I was given a haircut every second or third weekend. At the age of 10, I was trained by my Mother exactly how to eat in the dining car, when to talk, when to not talk, excuse yourself from the table if you had to leave, etc. One day I was being noisey as the Conductor was going down the aisle checking everyone's tickets and my Mother said to me " Behave yourself, the Conductor is almost here" ... I said why should I worry about what the Conductor see Mother? .... she said ... " Because that Conductor is your Godfather" ... small world.

We recently found your channel as we're planning a trip to NL in the near future. You have wonderful content; we find you very informative and easy to listen to. Wondering what you found as regards boil water advisories in NL? From what we can gather they're pretty frequent and widespread. We want to have a good water filtration system in place so we can avoid boiling water all the time, and not be forever feeling like we need to sanitize our fresh-water tank. We plan to do some boondocking and are hoping you have some input on the many places one can apparently dry camp. We're going to have to find ourselves a good map (or app) of available potable water supply/dump stations for sure! We've also enjoyed your Ontario Parks videos so far and hope you'll be posting more of them! One issue seems to be poor cell reception in ON parks. I know there are those who say we should just be enjoying nature, but many people need to be connected for a variety of reasons. Wondering if this is an issue for you.Thanks for the great videos, and looking forward to the next!
@TrueNorthCamping2 ай бұрын
BlueSky, thanks so much for your very kind feedback. We are genuinely happy that you find the series helpful! With regards to boil water advisories, yes, there were quite a few. We did have to flush the tank once when the water developed a brownish colour and used bottled water for drinking for the entire trip except in St Johns. Not all cgs have dump stations so we tried to limit water use and use showers in the cgs - 2 examples were the cgs we stayed in in Elliston (near Bonavista) and Dildo - Bonavista did have a dump station at the Ultramar gas station in town - $5 charge. Cell service is also spotty in much of the province, particularly the western half and we even found that Sirius satellite radio cut out a lot (you are pretty far north). As for boondocking, Newfoundland was very friendly towards it, unlike most of Canada (Yukon and Northern BC being the other exceptions we have found). We loved boondocking in Crow Head (Twillingate) and at Point Amour. There were also some beautiful spots near Trinity and Bonavista but we chose not to boondock there because the weather was not really conducive. We will say, camping in NFLD is very reasonable. Averaging 20-40 bucks CDN a night. I dont have our records with me as I write this but I think the most we paid was $55/night in St John's. Our last episode in the series will have a break down of our our costs....Hope all this helps...and have an amazing adventure in Nfld next year!!

@@TrueNorthCamping Thank you for your reply! We appreciate your taking the time and all the information! We like to be prepared and to travel as safely & trouble-free as possible, so we appreciate the attention to detail & extra steps you folks seem to take to preempt issues before they can arise. @@TrueNorthCamping Forgot to ask, sorry, but did you find most potable water fill stations had threaded ends on their fill hose?
