To be fair, employers should be more transparent about their pay, instead of playing games with people's finances. There are even some places that ask on the application of "what do you expect to be paid at this roll". Most places are interviewing 2-3 times with one candidate plus assessments. Literally stealing hours from someone that isn't even on their payroll. If there's nothing in the job listing and nothing really firm on glass door, pay should be an acceptable question. They should know if this job is even worth the time suck that interviewing for the position.

I'm a chronically unemployed guy - for many reasons (health, work history), one of which is the one you just mentioned - I combine facts and my real opinions - negative references on the previous employees and practices, for instance. All of those positions have been the least obnoxious ones I could accept - shit jobs - insurance adviser, bank teller, call centre ... At my last interview, I even mentioned that I took those positions because there hadn't been any better options.- ass simple as it was 🤣🤦‍♂But I think, if I were allowed to participate in an interview for a job I was really interested in, I would refine my speech accordingly.
