One of my favorite shows growing up. And it started my lifelong love of California. Still visit every year.

If they'd stayed on the bikes that were trailer mounted, they'd have been safer. That or not tie Cables to the Bikes from the Truck Trailer .. .

IMO. They should have kept actress Brianne Leary and never got actress Randi Oaks.

TiL that trucks carrying explosives have a tiny warning label on the side. Also; visible jump-ramp behind van at 0:44. I love this show!

It's nice to know that they just got up and walked away from that explosion I just watched this same episode today, and after they got blown off their bikes they edited it right to John & Ponch dancing in a club later, and delivering a baby on the dance floor, gotta love when they have to chop episodes to make sure there's enough commercials shown. When I grew up there was 1 minute of commercials every half hour, nowadays you see about 3 minutes worth out of every 10 minutes of a show.

The 1971 AMC Matador caused the explosion. I think the show CHiPs destroyed more AMC matadors than any other TV show

They are NOT on the 405 and nowhere near Venice. Closer to Eagle Rock and Pasadena.

This CHIPs episode had the most deaths. In most of the episodes, people didn’t die. But this one and the other episode where a fellow CHP was killed due to a stuntman causing a wreck to collect on insurance fraud.

This scene tied with the roller-skating/disco lady at the park for being unintentionally ridiculous. Chips was a great show to watch at a bar back in the 1970's. The endless rude & crude comments that were shouted-out made for an enjoyable evening.

People need to remember that back in the 70s and 80s there was a federal law that TV had to be family friendly from 7pm to 9pm, so they had to be light and entertaining and safe for small kids to watch. So no gritty or overly tense stuff. Also, TV had only a fraction of the budget that they use today.

It kills me how cars in this show would fly over another car that they rear ended and there would be no damage to the front end. Also the truck trailer just happens to explode after the cars tear through it. The funny thing is when I was growing up this all impressed me.
