This scene tied with the roller-skating/disco lady at the park for being unintentionally ridiculous. Chips was a great show to watch at a bar back in the 1970's. The endless rude & crude comments that were shouted-out made for an enjoyable evening.

0:35 is hilarious. Cars in both directions jumping like it's the Joey Chitwood stunt show. What are the odds of crashing into a truck filled with high explosives? All to the glorious sounds of Slap Bass. Awesome!!

It kills me how cars in this show would fly over another car that they rear ended and there would be no damage to the front end. Also the truck trailer just happens to explode after the cars tear through it. The funny thing is when I was growing up this all impressed me.

The 1971 AMC Matador caused the explosion. I think the show CHiPs destroyed more AMC matadors than any other TV show

WOW!! Back when cars were CARS. That AMC Matador and Buick LeSabre went through that shit with NO damage at all... trying doing that stunt with a Civic or Prius. LOL :P

There's actually not a whole lot of structure to the sides of a semi trailer, so it's plausible that those cars would go through them without taking on much damage. But you're right...a modern car probably wouldn't go through it quite so cleanly!

What kind of "explosives" were in the truck? Two Molotov cocktails? And cars just fly into the air rather than hit the car in front of them? I wish my car had that option. This show's outlook on action scenes was demented.

Probably, not a real Auburn Boattail Speedster... kit cars, replicars and Neo-Classics such as this... were the BIG thing in the 70's. Zimmer, Excalibur, Tiffany and Clenet were a few of the Neo-Classic top manufacturers throughout the 70s and early to later 80s.
