Hi, greatings from a fellow trucker, it´s nice to see a girl doing this job, there aren´t that many, at least not where I come from. A piece of advice though, I couldn´t help notice that you grab the inside of the wheel when you turn, that is NOT a good idea, if you hit a pothole, or a rock or something, the wheel could swing back in the opposite direction and break your arm, it´s happened to me twice. Stupid I know, I guess learn the hard way. Anyway, nice job.

Good for you! Although I learned to "float the gears" right from the start of my trucking days, I later became a proponent of double-clutching for all shifts (except splitter shifts) -- it's just easier on all the gears and driveline components. As you've discovered, shifting is all about timing between gears. And I'm talking 1/2 second, 1/4 second, maybe less. That slight "pause" between each gear allows the engine speed to drop enough to engage the next gear gently. When downshifting, that pause allows time for you to blip the throttle to raise engine speed enough to gently engage the lower gear. Listen to the engine -- with experience you'll eventually hear the pitch of revs needed for that lower gear. "Gentle" is the operative word -- any time you're forcing things, you're working too hard (and risk damaging equipment). Oh, and the shifting timing differences between the two trucks: It could be a difference in transmissions or engines. It looks like you have a 10-speed in the Kenworth; a 9-speed or 13-speed will have different gear ratio/steps, so your "pause" between gears will be longer or shorter depending upon the ratios of the transmissions. Also, different engines have different driving characteristics. Cummins or Detroit motors have similar "rpm fall rate" when shifting; I've found that Cat motors take more time to fall (heavier pistons/crank?). For whatever reason, when I drive a truck with a Cat engine, I need to slow my shifts ever so slightly. You might check that out between trucks. Keep doing what you're doing -- it's great to see young people (especially girls!) thriving in such a skilled endeavor. And keep posting videos!

I’m an Aussie truck driver doing what y’all call OTR (we just call it either interstate or long distance) and I drive a 3 trailer combination…… a road train. I’ve been at it for about 45 - 46 years, so have just a modicum of experience. Other than the fact I’ve been doing it a while, there’s nothing special about me. Lemme just say that EVERYONE, regardless of how good they are, or how experienced, occasionally “clips a gear”, or grinds one, so don’t let it bother you unless it’s every other gear, every other minute!!!!! 😂😂😂😂 You present as being very confident, which is no surprise to me being that you’re a farm girl. If I could make one very minor suggestion, though, it would be that don’t grab the inside of the wheel when you’re doing sharp turns, coz one day some idiot will canon into a steer tyre, or you will hit a thumping great pothole ….or a rock or something else will make that steering wheel “kick back”. If that ever does happen, you will be lucky to get away with a compound fracture of that arm (bone sticking out through the skin type bad). It doesn’t happen often, but once will be more than enough. Years ago a mate of mine was turning just like you do, hit a rock and did major damage to his arm. Try “palming the wheel” when you’ve gotta go hard lock like that as it keeps your hand, arm, fingers etc out of harms way of the spokes. I can show you what palming the wheel is, but not sure I can describe it!!!!! That would be the only (very minor) constructive criticism I would make. If you were my daughter, I would be well proud of your progress…..especially in such a short time. Kindest regards Indy
