Great guys love to see you wrenching on it and getting back on the road, its sad to see them sit, if i may make a suggestion, spray the underside with dry ice to remove all the rust and paint it underneath and in the wheel wells the original color with single stage paint, also paint the rear end black, what a lot of guys do is clear coat the body to preserve the patina and original paint and leave the engine bay as is to keep that original aged look

Joyce and uncle Larry have asked it to go back to original. We are working on getting a garage to work on it, but want to allow more time to enjoy it running and driving before we tear it down and start the restore process. Thanks for the suggestions and when we do start the restoration I will for sure investigate this method

@@MaySeizeGarage no problem enjoy working on it! its a very solid car you have to work with, if you would like to see how dodges get restored 100% graveyard carz in portland does amazing work mark worman does it all 100% to factory spec he has a show and posts on youtube, he is like an encyclopedia as for storage if its going to stay parked where it was, id suggest pouring a concrete slab there and afterwards sealing the slab, it will never rust again as long as the building has good ventilation, moisture comes up from the ground and eats em but gravel is definitely better than dirt or grass

I got here via Dylan. It's so nice to be able to follow the car and you guys further. I have to say I admire how you guys work together, your patience and Macey's willingness to learn. I wish I had that kind of rapport with my 13 year old. I do have a 10 yr old that may be able to work with me, but she's got a way to go, and I'm afraid I'm not as able as I once was so the projects will need to be less ambitious. But it's the time together that really counts in the end. Thanks for sharing the journey with us all.

Whenever adding sealant, it's good practice to wipe it into a thin flat layer before placing the parts together. This prevents air bubbles from forming, as well as guarantees equal distribution of the sealant, and ensures it gets into all the cracks and crevices, as well as allows for removal of additional sealant. You should end up with a thin film which should be ample to seal, unless the housing or mating surface is warped. If there is warpage, the parts should be replaced or resurfaced.

Get a hydraulic jack be safe I had a car fall from the bumper Jack's many times there not put in cars anymore for a reason there dangerous
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
I have a small jack, but really needed to get the car off of the ground to ensure my dad bod would fit under it. All the work we are doing on the car is pro bono and I have to keep my costs down as best possible. In the video we do discuss the dangers of using a bumper jack and the importance of using jack stands. It is important to teach the kiddos that may not have access to a floor jack how to be safe especially when you do not have the right tools or most desirable working conditions. Plus, if the Mrs. watches the videos and agrees it would be safer with a floor jack, perhaps we can get one approved! Merry Christmas kiddo, Santa got you a floor jack this year! Or maybe I can get her to ask for a garage, you know, for safety reasons.

Yes, so very proud of her! I love how she gets upset when I am doing a task that she wanted to do herself. Some people would be content with sitting back and letting others do the work. The, "I can do this" mindset is a mentality that I find very desirable in people I work with.

Stay away from bumper jacks and scissor jacks if you can, they aren't safe. Always make sure you chalk your tires before lifting a car, even if it is in park, especially in gravel. Good video, keep up the good work.
@samvalentine3206 Жыл бұрын
Bumper and scissor jacks are fine for lifting a car up in the air to get it off the ground, as long as the vehicle is supported with jack stands afterwards. You're right - they are NOT safe to use as the sole support to hold a car up while one is underneath working on a car. We've all heard horror stories of folks who have died after the car fell on them using only a bumper jack for support. We don't want to go there for sure!
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes! If you have an impressive floor jack and a great surface to use it on, please use them! Working on cars is not my full time job. I do not have the best tools and my kiddo and I are volunteering to work on this car for my uncle so we can't always purchase the best tools. As you saw in this video, sometimes we have to "hack" a solution (drilling out the o ring using a square bit in an impact drill) It takes more time, and someone with better tools could do it faster. However, I am teaching the kiddo to be resourceful as well as safe. I would love to have this car on concrete and have a four post lift, but we do the best we can with what we have. Hopefully others see these videos with limited resources like us and learn ways to get the job done while being safe at the same time.
@hayneshvac2 Жыл бұрын
@@MaySeizeGarage Absolutely...I have to do the same. I recommend once you get the funds, get a floor jack that has one single roller across the front of it...they are much easier to manipulate than a standard floor jack in the gravel. I got mine on sale at harbor freight for like $100 bucks. Safety first always, you are correct. I am glad to see the jack stands you set up. I will say, for future reference, get it out of the garage with sketchy jacks so you have room to run...lol

Where you where saying about connecting the jumper direct to the leads instead of through a battery. That doesn't always work. Especially on newer vehicles that draw more currnet. I've tried it before on a mid 90's car and it hasn't worked with leads between the battery and cable. An easy way to check the battery. While you're cranking, check how many volts it drops.
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
Correct. I should have mentioned Ohms law and that resistance of the conductor, the length of the conductor, and the voltage applied can have an effect on if extending the cable using the jumper cables on the terminals like that would be effective. I missed a teachable moment... although I think I would have to do a web search to remember how to calculate that. Can't let the kiddo see me do that!

I always teach to listen to the advice of others, but do not always accept it as the correct way. It's ok to question and explore other paths. I may teach what I "know" but that does not mean that I am always correct. Anyone that has watched these videos could agree with that. Encourage others to question and challenge you. The battery in the car is drawn down com0letly flat. As you hook up the jumper cables listen to the truck engine. As you connect the last jumper cable, the truck engine should lug down when you hook the last cable. If not wiggle each jumper cable one at a time and listen, once you find the weak connection the truck engine will lug down as it starts charging the dead battery. Often just hooking the clamps on wont get a good connection. Wiggling the clamps cuts through the crud on the battery to get a good connection. If you cant jump start try a known good battery in the car. If that doesnt work you can pull the starter and bench test with the jumper cables. If it works then the starter is probly fine. Clean all connection between battery and starter. It doesnt take much corrosion on connections to keep a starter from working.
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
This was our exact thought process. In the next video, we will go through these trouble shooting steps. I am a few videos behind the actual work.

Definitely seems like a dead battery, I would recommend disconnecting the battery when you park it in the barn to keep it from draining down if there’s a draw on the system 👍🏼 Cleaning all the connections with a wire brush certainly won’t hurt either!
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
We usually keep it disconnected but when we got there it was still connected and dead. I thought we should be able to jump it, but that did not work. Charged battery did not work, and running the cables to my battery did not work I will have an update in the next video

try cleaning the negative battery cable connection to the car, could just be rusty and not making a good connection.

I did not show it on my latest video (the starter video) but when testing the terminals, the ground terminal does have a zone that is not registering. Most of the terminal shows a connection but one zone appears to not work. Did not make much sense to me, so just left it on, but may swap out the terminals in the future. Thank you for taking the time for the input. It really is helpful
