Hey Kiddos, In this MSG, we go behind the scenes as Dylan McCool and Jacob, from Sally's Speed Shop, document what goes into getting a car that has been off the road since 2007 running and driving again. If you have not seen their videos, check them out now
Dylan BARN FIND 1968 CHARGER - Will It Run And Drive After Sitting for Years?
• BARN FIND 1968 CHARGER...
Jacob • BARN FIND 1968 DODGE C...

Two years ago, my daughter asked to restore a 68-70 Charger with me. My cousin Joyce heard her story and said, "You know I still have dad's old Charger in the barn" My daughter and I went and looked at it so she could see if she did indeed want to work on a charger together. My uncle Larry and cousin Joyce both have health issues that were preventing them from getting it going again, but there was no way they wanted to sell the car. However, my kiddo said the way Joyce lit up when she talked about the car and how excited she got remembering all the stories made my daughter want to get it running again, so they could make more memories in it.
The kiddo and I turned to KZbin and started watching videos of what it would take to get it going again when we stumbled onto Dylan McCool's channel. I joined his FaceBook page and eventually had the chance to tell him the story, and ask for any advice that never made it on camera. He said he would love to help and document the process if we wanted. So this MSG is to show that we all need help from time to time. Sometimes the most difficult thing is learning to ask. The biggest blessing to our family was not getting this antique car running, it was creating the memories and getting to meet people like Dylan and Jacob who were willing to help.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. -Galatians 6:9

This is an excellent candidate for a full restore, but whatever you decide to do with it, as long as it gets appreciated, I am here for the story...came over from Dylan McCools channel, and Sally's, I have already subscribed, and am awaiting updates...I am also interested in where your daughter goes next for her first car...thank you for the content, glad to see a new generation peaking interest and learning. We have to maintain the hope for these old classics.

If I owned it, I would go for the full restore. For now, Joyce and Larry want to get it driveable and enjoy it together while they can. As for Macy, she and I will get to spend some time working on this car and continue our journey of building and swapping until we have the car she wants to keep. She mentioned the Suzuki SideKick. I think we will use it to learn on and then swap it for another vehicle to restore and build up, until we have the vehicle she wants to keep. I keep pushing her towards an old truck (what my father and I mostly worked on when I was her age) but we shall see.

She hasn't learned to drive in any vehicle, and you saw how nervous she is to hurt the car in any way, but I can't wait until I can take her for a ride in it. Once she learns to drive, and if Joyce is ok with it, perhaps we will capture her driving it and post it.

That car is absolutely beautiful, I would coat that patina and coat the underneath with rust proof, take the carpet out and clean it, put something to cover and protect the dash and the only thing I would redo is the seats, maybe the only thing I would paint is under the hood and make it shine, it's really hard to find one of those rust free, you're super lucky!👍❤

Just subbed after watching Dylan and Sally's videos. Epic project! Can't wait to see the next installment. Makes me want to get out and work on my '78 Firebird (still too cold here in Canada). Fantastic that Joyce held onto the car, and that her dad is still around to see this. Hopefully he'll get to be a passenger in it soon enough, maybe with Joyce driving it! Also great that your daughter is taking an interest in it, and old restoration in general. It's so rare these days. Hopefully she keeps it up. She'll learn so much doing this, and i will help her later in life. BTW, a 'quick fix' for the leaking heater core is to just connect the 2 hoses together with a short piece of copper. Idk if the replacement means you have to take out the whole dash like I have to on mine when I get around to it, so this is a simple fix for now. Good luck, and we look forward to more.
@MaySeizeGarage
@MaySeizeGarage Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. Heater core replacement is turning out to be more than I thought! We will get it though. I think Larry and Joyce want the seats redone before they really start driving it. Trying to get it tagged and legal to drive now. I believe the next video will show the temporary fix to the heater core we did so I could take Joyce out for a drive, but have to get the editing done before I know for sure. It is great working with Macy and teaching what little I know and then learning together on the things I don't. Dylan and Jacob were a big help!

I'm definitely here from Dylan and Sally's speed shop! Love the 68 charger! Very cool story! Love the fact your daughter wants to learn more about classics. This stuff is lost on most young folks today. My best friend who passed in 15' had a 68 charger, his dad owned it and gave it to him. I have a 69 gto I've owned 31 yrs and we used to go to shows all the time! Look forward to seeing more of the 68!!! My buddys had a 383 with a 2 bbl and a 727, was spanish gold with white interior.

@@MaySeizeGarage Yes I have to for sure, it has a 70 455 and a th400 in it. Recently rebuilt the rear with moser axles and a trutrac with 3.42 gears. Added dbl adj qa1 coilovers as well. Sadly my buddys charger ended up in storage b4 he passed then i heard it's back in his dad's old place in the garage in San Jose Ca, wish i could get that car as it was in great shape and had been restored. He had put some original polished ansen sprint slots on it with new big tires and it looked so good! I grew up working on cars with my dad, we had several pontiacs. My dad had a 67 lemans with a Jim butler 474 stroker in it. It ran 10.89 at 125mph on it's first pass, not too shabby for an old poncho!! Originally got the lemans from the st vincent depaul for 600.00 all original 1 owner. I actually found change from 1967 under the back seat and the build sheet...stuff like that is just so cool to me!!!! My brother had a 70 challenger with a 440 and a 71 demon 340 4 speed yrs ago. He now has a 71 challenger plumb crazy purple with black interior. It has a 440 stroked to 500 cubes and a pistol grip 4 speed in it! Very cool mopar!!! Also has a shaker hood with a spoiler on it as well! Best of luck with the 68!!!

Macy gave me hope for our future seeing a young lady who has so much respect for history and classic cars is a great thing without a doubt. Fixing up the interior, recover the seats as needed, new door cards, headliner just to make it more comfortable to ride in. Those door cards tear up your fingers if you bump them. Those front seats torn up like that won't be fun to sit on. Having the headliner fall on your head is very annoying. On your tire going soft it might not be a tire, it could be a bead leak from the wheel being rough where the bead seats.
@MaySeizeGarage

We have been asked to fix the seats to make it more comfortable to ride in. Door panels too. Probably won't do much more than that until ready to fully restore... unless they ask us to do that too.

Please for the love of God, it’s a beautiful vehicle. See if you can fix the alternator and definitely fix the heater core because the fumes from the coolant are toxic.

My apologies, I digress I didn’t watch the rest of the video that’s absolutely stellar. You guys are gonna do this. It’s a beautiful piece of history.😢

It would be fun if you could have WaWa come over and work with you I think she lives close enough nearby from SleeperDude88 😊 Do you have the Chiltons book for that car?

I have not seen WaWa... I will have to look her up. Do not have the Chiltons book, but I have the internet and forums to turn to. Already received great advice from chat and forums. We will for sure be reaching out to others that are willing to come and teach Macy (and myself)

this car deserves a full restoration, pettna is ok if it was just a Coronet or something but this 68 Charger is 1 of the " it "cars for Mopar even as a 318 car at least do a outer body restoration to it .The body is far to nice !

I hope to do that someday. For now, it's a roadstoration so they can drive and enjoy it some more before tearing it down to restore correctly

@@MaySeizeGarage I under stand it's very expensive to even paint a old car these days. Just keeping that old girl running and road worthy is a good thing. I watched Dylan video he is a very nice young man to help your family with getting it back running .It's unbelievable that there is still 68,69,70 Charger barn fines still out there. What a Cool car and I am a GM man my self but I own a 71 Cuda too and love it .

Hey my name is Mike I enjoyed watching the video of the charger I have a great idea I got the idea from watching A guy on KZbin his name is weird beard and what he did was He used bedliner for the top Of his car after he removed the vinyl roof he sanded it down and it looks great you should do that to the charger I would really love to see that done...

Joyce has already told me that she wants to replace the vinyl, but there appear to be a few bubbles under the vinyl and I am afraid that when we remove the rest we are going to see some spots that will make me want to fix all the rust and keep it off the road while I repair it. May look this suggestion as it may be easier to remove the bedliner than to tear off new vinyl when it comes time to fix the rust.

I had to replace the roof skin on my 69. It was Swiss cheese from the old vinyl. Roof skin wasn’t a bad job, I leaded the seams too. Vinyl is going back on.
