I've watched this so many times but I gotta say at 17 it didn't feel like it was about to trigger a seizure like it does now. Why is the director shooting her like that? She's not Quasimodo ffs. Light her properly we want to see her face.

*The success of this song, along with Ratcat and other Underground bands right before Grunge happened, only proves that Australia was ahead of the curve regarding the popular tastes the world would come to know courtesy of Nirvana*

So many great indie bands then! Of course Ratcat were breakout stars, there were also the Hummingbirds, the Clouds, Underground Lovers.... Then a few years later it was all grungy shite like Grinspoon, and now... nothing!! Those were the days, my friend.

Absolutely fab band. I saw The Clouds in Sydney just a couple of months ago. They were amazing, just wish the two could have done a double bill. Far out. Suzie Higgie was a show stopper at the old RSL Club in Civic (we were probably at the same gig) in 1992, I think. Hey, I saw Alvvays at the O2 at Kentish Town last year, I am an Aussie, family in Nuneaton would you believe. They are so 90's and evocative of the GOB's, The Clouds, Falling Joys, The Hummingbirds etc. Don't lose it, keep going to gigs my friend.

@@Vaughan261342 Great to hear they’re still playing. I think it was 1991 I was in Oz. Saw some great stalwarts of Australian music up in the snow.. The Angels, Hunters & Collectors & Crowded House.. I love it, still listen to Triple J 🤣..

I met the band in Studios 301, maybe sometime in 89. Great people, excellent music. Of course, as a junior engineer in those studios at the time a combination of pretention and not wanting to look like a prat, I never said how much I loved their music. I doubt they remember me, we played pool for an hour or so. I don't even remember exactly what they were doing there, maybe Don Bartley was mastering a single or album. Anyway, sorry. I've listened to the singles for over 30 years, with a bit of a gap in the 90s before everything was on the internet. This is one of my favourite songs ever.

Pretty much the soundtrack to late 80s inner city Sydney! Lived round the corner from the Hopetoun Hotel in a 3 story terrace, $88 per week between 4 of us. And why wasn't this song a massive hit?

I heard the song Black Bandages on Rage one night when The Falling Joys were guest programing. The song was featured on their studio album from 1992 called Psychohum. Black Bandages was one of the few, if any, politically charged, anti-war songs written after Operation Desert Storm. I think this song has great merit as The Falling Joys dared to make a comment about the shocking effects of war on the innocent. The many thousands of women and children, the aged and infirmed caught in the cross fire and affectionally known as "collateral damage".🔥. The track has a great punk-rock feel, driving distorted guitars, fuzzed up bass, heavy drums, the Star Spangled Banner and voice samples from reporters, world leaders and war correspondents. Brave song. Great lyrics. Check it out!!!
