Seeing the Falling Joys live at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney back in the 80s. Fell in love with the band and especially with Suzie. Those days will never come again! What a classic song!

Heard this around 1993 on a college radio station in the American Northeast on the left of the dial. Had to call the radio station (got their number in the American yellow pages) and they actually answered the phone and I told the DJ it was a song with a man and woman singing to identify the song and found out it was the Fallen Joys. It wan't until I started using KZbin in 2006 I got to hear this again.

+Davin Dx Misspelled the band. I anyhow had a similar experience. A Pittsburgh AM station in late 1980's played this once, or I caught them once, maybe twice, and the song stuck with me. Forgot the band name...thought it was "Dropping Joys". Google is your friend when you need to find that song stuck in your head and have only certain key words. Anyway, this is a great tune.
@dampergoldenrod41569 жыл бұрын
+dcalvitti What was the name of the station you heard it on?
@dcalvitti9 жыл бұрын
+Davin Dx Based on research I think it was called WXDX-AM, but googling this yielded virtually not much specific info, so I can't be sure. The station operated from dawn to dusk only, but played terrific music, I even abandoned FM in favor of it until it shut down around 1991 or something.

@@dcalvitti Love that you found the Falling Joys. What a great Aussie band. The Clouds are another band that rocked similar tunes around that time, Keep on searching Damper and the cal man because there are so many more to find in Oz.

This is just a brilliant song, as is the video. What makes the video so special is that the Falling Joys produced it themselves.

My dad was good friends with pete velzen when they were younger and we recently saw him at a cook out and my dad introduced me to him and then he talked to him about me being his “golden child” because I love jangle and rock music and how i want to create music and Pete offered to help me, I’m not sure what he meant or how and he mentioned how he made music back in the day but never specified what band. I just thought he was one of those teens in the small local bands like my dad haha. My dad later told me to listen to this song and after telling him I loved it he told me took up the band members and here we are now.

Saw the Joys at The Bar on the Hill (Newcastle uni) in - must have been '87, the year before this clip was released. I was 17 and thought they were "choice". They were packing up their gear afterwards and I asked Suzie to sign my copy of Burnt So Low. She was so cool. I'm sure I was probably gushing but she was really nice and at ease. We had a chat for a bit and then they were gone. I moved to Sydney soon after and used to frequent the Hopetoun so it was great revisiting this video clip for those memories. Love this song and miss the 80s/90s indie music scene so much! Cheers 😊

Fell in love with the Joys when I lived in Newcastle NSW in 88-89. Managed to see them live in The Wiltshire in LA when I was there a year later. 5 years ago, I directed a play called 'My Romantic History' by Glaswegian playwrite D C Jackson. I used Joys tunes for all the incidental music and sent Suzi Higgie an email to inform her of such. I never got a reply, but it was a great show.
