If you like the movie, read the book. Harm's Way by James Bassett. Much more background and detail.

At the 1.32 mark of the video, the game announcer states "that the game is tied with 17 fateful seconds to go in the game". You look up at the clock in the corner and there are 19 seconds left, tied 40-40. Hmmm ???

Best sports movie ever. I grew up surfing the Texas coast and never saw the Midwest until the Navy and a later post-college career with State Farm. At management school in Bloomington, Illinois, our instructor took this movie and showed it to us section-by-section, breaking it down by leadership points. We groaned every time he had to stop it for coaching. My favorite of MANY awesome scenes: “My team is on the floor!” This movie makes me cry every damn time.

If the glorious fanfare featuring celli and horns at 2:33 doesn't send your ASMR off the charts, you've got no soul. Check your pulse. Between "Hoosiers" and "The Natural", you don't need any other sports-themed film to make you love the underdog

The bridge scene was shot from my grandfather's (and later my dad's) property. Threw rocks in the creek from that bridge when I was a kid. The creek (sugar creek) is one of the best canoing creeks in the state.

Love this movie. I was a teenager when it was filmed and I was there all four nights they filmed it at Hinkle Fieldhouse. I got to run out on the court when the final shot was made. And yes, he did make it the first time we ran out, but missed it a couple other times but we still had to run out. It was frickin awesome.

At 54, I was able to watch this movie in 86 when it came out, and God knows how many times since. I would guess that many who love this movie are from a small town, as am I. When you beat a much bigger school, there just aren't words to express the feeling you get. This final scene does just that, with only three words that say it all, I'll make it. The music and crowd reaction after fills that emotion every time. It brings a tear, every time. And a smile of that memory as fresh as if it was yesterday. EVERY TIME.

Since the Milan team had finished 4th. in the state the previous year, they would have already been familiar with the arena. Just another example of Hollywood not letting the facts get in the way of a good story. This is particularly true in the case of the movie Hoosiers where just telling the story the way it actually happened would have been just as good or better than the fictionalized version Hollywood put out.

The way the whole team knows Jimmy will make it, and coach being stubborn at times about following his game plans, sees it in them. Theyre right, and he'll give them the play to win. Such a magic moment. God i love this movie.

That guy who was the ringleader in trying to get the coach fired in this scene was shown in the crowd at games after the team started winning (including the scene in the final game) as Mr. Bandwagon cheering his ass off. What a hypocritical, phony baloney, piece of crap people like that are. He should have been run out of town on a rail. Had he remained the coach of that team instead of Dale taking over, they would have been lucky to win 2 games all year.

Our local high school did this very thing back in 2019. It is a small, class A high school in the middle of nowhere West Virginia and our boys went 28-0 winning the West Virginia boys basketball State Championship in the last few minutes of the game to make school history. The school was opened in the early 1970's as a consolidation of two smaller rival schools in our county. We had never won a state title in anything until 2019 and that special group of guys put themselves on the line and won every single game they played that season. I was there when they won it all. It was something to see.........
