HOOSIERS - Gene Hackman & Barbara Hershey walk

Hoosiers is a 1986 sports film about a small-town Indiana high school basketball team that wins the state championship. The story is set during 1951/1952, when all high schools in Indiana, regardless of size, competed in one state championship tournament. It is loosely based on the Milan High School team that won the 1954 state championship.

HalooftheMuse, yep, he sure is one of the best ever. 84 now. He left acting and became a writer about life on the ocean, and is now married for a long time to a great Chinese pianist. Nice life. He earned it. Used to work as a door-man in NYC. Best!

Totally believable ergo that’s some fine acting. Two wondrous actors at the height of their powers. Flawed but good is a hard thing to play.

they were both flawed by at the time..all three were Dennis Hopper but they were beyond amazing at the time they were all not doing so well. they had pitched the movie with Gene 2 years before. the whole movie was about the underdog

I read that the deleted scenes added a lot to the relationship between Hackman's and Hershey's characters. In the original version it all seems 'contractually obligated' to be in the story.

​@@johnd2442 Both actors are great, but we don't get enough time with them together. I've now watched the deleted scenes and they should have been left in. Hershey otherwise gets relegated to a minor character in the last third of the movie.

Just the way the sky looked, the clouds, I first thought it was fall.....so why is she planting? haha. THen I realized basketball is in the spring......then I saw the corn...they screwed that scene up!

They left it up I guess ,there aren't any leaves on the trees it must be late fall,....a beautiful time in my eyes. It could be feed corn form the stock or seed corn who knows. She might be turning over the ground to plant a winter grass but she's using a hoe , certainly making it hard for herself. Anyway it's a great scene.

Jesus, Hackman’s monologue…the way those words fall out of his mouth. They could have been so obvious, so overdone by another actor. You almost don’t realize he’s even done it.
