I have a 25 year old Johnson 3hp 2 stroke that will push a canoe to 12 mph. I am guessing that they may have been exaggerating calling that a 3.6 hp. I had a 1-1/2 hp “Cruise-N-Carry” air cooled outboard many years ago that I’m pretty sure pushed a 9’ inflatable boat faster than 3 mph. I used that little motor for a long time, mostly fishing for trout and liked it a lot.

We have that motor with that exact problem as well. Would love to see you pull the power head and complete the troubleshoot so that I can do it to mine. I do not have the confidence to do it without watching a video first. Please make the video.

I have a 1969 Starcraft with a '69 Mercury 65HP... very retro and cool, a couple of problems with it stalling occasionally, need a new prop and rebuild. Looking forward to learning a few tips from your channel. When a I saw your cowling was broken I was going NOOOOOOO! What a heartbreak! Where do you find parts for these old motors? Thanks for your great content.

@@Markomyt1 yea that was sad 🤣 the 65 should be a fun project! You can enter your engines model # on Crowley marine and get part diagrams for every part of your engine, then I will use that part number and search a few different places for who’s got the best deal. Amazon, eBay, Crowley marine, and marine engine (.com)!

@@BoatBusters Thank you very much! Looking forward to seeing more. I also have a little 9.9 Johnson trolling motor and it seems to have an exhaust leak... So much fun working on these, but I am nervous about digging into the carb and getting it all back together. I send you a link with pictures of the boat.

I know your just having fun with this build but a piece of plywood for the console to sit on between the lips would have been good but I maybe would have put the console where the seat was then sit on something cause having the weight in the back makes it more stable I would think but good video good to just have fun

Yeah man for sure let's see you do it, clean out those channels. I want to see a full stream coming out of that water jet. I remember working on Old Johnson's back when I had old flat boats. I changed a few impellers and fixed a big Mercury ignition coil. Boating was fun but it always seemed to be a money pit. Take it easy, Casey

You should do a video on how to turn a 9.9 hp motor into a 15 hp motor. With speed tests before and after. Many Yamaha 9.9 motors are the same as the 15 hp models but with a limiter in the carb system.
