I drove an 1980's PMC Adelaide (Australian) school bus for two decades, those old yellow ones some may remember that were everywhere in regional/rural areas, it was a front engined International straight 6, 4 speed Allison automatic that was LOUD 😂. I swear that bus is the reason why I'm hard of hearing nowadays, it was loud, slow and smoky but damn reliable and still more fun to drive than the new rear engined buses.

Edison Motors up in Canada is making semi trucks with a diesel hybrid drive train similar to what trains have used for decades now. They claim a 30% improvement in mileage over straight diesel and just alllll the torque. Their system involves a high efficiency generator constantly charging a battery pack, meaning no direct driveshaft connection, so the generator could theoretically be placed anywhere. Including side saddle like a fuel tank, or even potentially on the trailer itself. That could make COE trucks tenable for the US again, since the bulky engine wouldn't be underfoot.

The best seats in the winter are the very back seats. They have built in butt warmers! At least in Lansing, MI CATA busses, LOL!

3:55 "Formula 1 Racers" Sir... that's a Formula E car, ya know, with no engine... Also, single seatters and performance vehicles have Mid-Mounted-Engines Is fairly diferent than rear-mounted since those are placed in front of the rear wheels, with better wheight distribution than rear-mounted, potentialy more compact aswell but often less accesible for service

It comes down to weight and maintenance. Front axle has lower weight rating than the rear axle, easier to work on from the rear in many applications

You say that rear-engined buses are more efficient in air-conditioning. How? What is there about the rear engine mounting that makes interior cooling more effective. What are the engineering considerations that make for this effect? You didn't provide *that* information at all.

Drive shaft tunnel? Are you that dense? Do you really think the drive haft would be that when the floor of the bus is almost level with the tops of the tires? Buses aren't all that special. They are trucks, configured for their purpose. I am guessing that nobody involved in this website has ever been involved in the heavy truck industry.

Am I right if I say that when a bus turns about (the rear wheels), a front engine bus has a larger moment of inertia (about the vertical axis passing through the rear wheel hub) than a bus with rear engine. This make it easier to steer a rear engine bus than a front engine bus. Kindly comment.

Unbelievable...more US specific BS. Nobody remembers the 5 speed Mack transmissions from the 60's, coupled to Maxidyne engines. The clown who made this video knows nothing. BTW, the 18 speed RR is still a 5 speed in reality. You work out how it's done if you can.

yet it was a company associated with yellow cap in usa . that built the yellow coach bus that GM invested and finally bought the co who had rear engine and wheels behind front door which also made them more maneuverable in cities then GH coatch division along with Detroit diesel with v drive transmission was the bus design in most of the world for decades other co built bus but engine and trans were mostly Detroit/Allison at time when detroit 2 stokes and other bus co were faced with companies no longer buying transit co but government fed and state in usa decided to design a bus GM foolishly agreed to build well transit gov designed a overweight, no opening window too small engine and it failed gm got out and several other co went bankrupt after selling ex nyc bus frames cracked riding on the worst city streets in country am general trolly bus started electrocuting drivers now new builders and modern diesels maybe not as reliable as a 2 stroke they are cleaner quiter but extremly expensive but yet basically just like the 1930 design basics

We have 180 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2548 LS is a long-haul truck with a 12.8 liter inline 6 engine mirrorless 2020-2024 and 5 DAF XF 480 2024 model mirrorless AND let me tel ya all: DAF's have no such thing called "fuel efficiency" compared with the Mercs! Also the one DAF needed already replacing all the injectors and the Mercs never had engine problems.

The Vanhool (New) AG300 and AGG300 (both low floor, respectively an articulated and double articulared model) have their engines in a bulge behind the driver, so on the left side of the isle. It's an interesting setup. Because these buses are lighter at the back than normal articulated buses, they also can have steering axles at the back, which makes them quite maneuverable.
