Thanks! It’s just one micron diamond spray. You can also use green chromium oxide polishing compound as an alternative.

Hello, I know this is an old video… may I ask… I have a Damascus wedding band with gold inlay.. when I first got It it was beautiful lovely contrast maybe a little light etch for my liking but still none the less beautiful… only after a few month it looked like one steel, cannot see the Damascus pattern anymore… my question is… can I put my ring into a tub of coffee for couple hours to bring out the two types of steel and it not affect the gold ? Thank you 🙏
@StarkKnives12 күн бұрын
Hi! It might have developed a patina or something. You could try lightly sanding it with 1000+ grit sand paper and then putting it into the coffee. I don’t think it should have any effect on the gold.

Why do you go one way in a belt but then sharpen the opposite way on a wet stone?
@StarkKnives4 ай бұрын
I like being able to see the burr forming in this direction. It’s easier when it’s fast like on a belt vs stone.

does coffee work on D2 steel?
@StarkKnives4 ай бұрын
I haven’t tried it but I’d be a little concerned that the composition of D2 might not lend itself well to coffee etching. The coffee might not be strong enough. You could give it a shot and if it doesn’t work, use something stronger like ferric chloride acid.
@SirPraiseSun4 ай бұрын
@@StarkKnives i tried lemon and vinegar only made a mild change so d2 might be an odd 1, ill try coffee if not then ferric chloride, thanks for the help.
@StarkKnives4 ай бұрын
@SirPraiseSun yeah I know D2 has some stainless properties so it’ll likely need something pretty strong to have a real effect on it.

@StarkKnives7 ай бұрын
If it’s Damascus then you can just let it air dry and then oil it like I showed in the video. The darkness might fade a bit with use but should be relatively durable.

what is the speed of the sander......is it fine to sharpen at high speed
@StarkKnives8 ай бұрын
I think mine goes up to 1800 rpm or something but I usually turn it slower. It can be okay to sharpen at high speed but you want to make sure you do quick passes and dunk in water to prevent the heat from building up.
@4056yates8 ай бұрын
I've always thought it makes more sense to sharpen. In the direction you do. I've seen some popular people on KZbin sharpen with the belt going towards the edge. Rather than away, and that seems to me like it would wear the belt. Out of a lot fasir, is that why you sharpen away?
@StarkKnives8 ай бұрын
I like it because I can really easily see the burr being raised and I don’t worry about the edge catching. :)

is that real damacus? whys the patten only on half the bladE?
@StarkKnives9 ай бұрын
It is real. The pattern is on the entire blade, so not sure what you mean exactly. If you mean under the handle, it’s just harder to see since I didn’t polish it as much since it would be getting covered by the scales.

So I am going to get all this. Thankyou! 2 questions; How long to the stencils take to arrive generally, and haw many times can one stencil be etched. Cheers.
@StarkKnives Жыл бұрын
Nice! I’d say they usually take 1-2 weeks once the order is placed. In my experience, a stencil can be used for at least 25-40 knives before they start to show signs of wear. It probably depends on how you use them too.
