I only use few basic items, but i plan to buy betl grinder and upgrade my drill press.. Its super cheap and its nightmare to drill holes straight in hard materials plus more ppl will use polishing wheal in drill press then have attachment for belt grinder so i would put those on first/second spots.. and for me i would add lathe to make my own corbys and ring making.. those 3 machines are on top of my list for future.. oven or portable saw would be great, but for a hobby im ok with angle grinder and sending few knives to pro once in few months.. but now im buying tools for leather working first... You definetly have great setup and your grinder is beast

The bandsaw is amazing but the hacksaw is not THAT BAD with a proper fixed vise ahah, cheers

Nice choice of tools!! I really like your band saw!! The blade gets it on !! I know , the torque helps!!🙂ha ha Well I had to go cheaper 😔 but except for the noise, my Harbor Freight has done a decent😢 job for me!! Transferred the bolt pattern and mounted a table on him!! I built a backing plate and used the studs in my garage to mount him!! It’s ok , but I’ll get set-up like you one day Lord Willin! I use the Luffkin blades to but I haven’t put my eye on the one you’re using,, did you have to order it special? Thanks for your help partner!!

The band saw is nice! I actually used Harbor Freight saws for a while and got a lot done on them! I use Lennox blades that I buy on Amazon usually.

I'm enjoying your videos, as they are VERY informative. I'm currently shopping for a Milwaukee or Dewalt portable band saw. Can you tell me what model Dewalt you use and why you chose it over others?

Question for the bandsaw. If you don’t have access to that stand and table you’ve got for yours, is there any other way of making a stand and table?

I know a lot of people have welded their own or built something. I would just search for how to make portaband tables or something like that!

It’s just a SWAG Off-road table. They have instructions about how to mount the bandsaw to the table. :)

Yeah it’s not cheap but if you use it as much as I do and don’t know how to easily build one it’s worth it haha!

Question for the belt grinder : could somebody use the speed regulator on a cheap one ? I'm not a pro , so 3k for one like yours would be not a wise choice , since I wouldn't need it.

I am not 100% sure. I believe the motor has to be 3 phase or something in order to run it with a VFD. There are some cheaper 2x72s or 2x42s on the market that a lot of people use if you want something more affordable.

What is the biggest difference with the oil you use, and where do you buy your metal.

I get the steel from New Jersey Steel Baron and Alabama Damascus. The main difference is in the speed of the quench. Parks 50 is for faster quenching steels and AAA is for slower.

I'd say my drill press and the small articulated vise, I use that small thing all the time. I also offered my eyes an articulated lamp with magnifying glass built in.

Same here, though I don't own an oven right now (my friends fabrication shop I spent a lot of time in until I moved last year had a 220v even heat with ramp). I learned on a single speed grinder but buying my variable speed Ameribrade was an amazing investment in my work quality and enjoyment. Still need a band saw table. Noah (@chattaknives)

Will someone please explain to me why a grinder with grinding stones isn't a option???

It can be but they are less versatile and harder to use for anything other than profiling knives. I’m assuming you’re taking about a bench grinder.

@@StarkKnives basically and other stones. I haven't used a belt type before. I have and use a 10 inch down to 3 inch. As well as a older stone I use a lot but it is two inch wide and I want to say almost 30 inches across. Everyone has their own style or what not. I like turn of the century line shaft tools. Now to say I don't have some electric but point was we used stones for thousands of years now why not still use them???

I’m not sure! I would think it could work for some materials, but I’m not sure if they have blades that would hold up to steel or hard handle materials like G10.

I personally don’t use an anvil so I am not sure! I could imaging that it might work for some light work though!

Heat treat oven is horrible advice. You can send out 500 knives for pro HT and still not cover the cost

I am not suggesting that it's the right thing to choose for everyone by any means. I actually use professional heat treating services for a lot of my larger batches as well, and I think that's a fantastic option. A major reason I personally have seen major benefits from having my own heat treating setup though is that it allows me to take on more specialized custom pieces or last minute orders that would not be possible if I had to send it away to a service. It may not be that way for everyone, but for me personally, the benefits gained from being able to do those types of projects have certainly been more than enough to compensate for the additional cost. I think it's a bit harsh to just call something horrible advice without getting a bit more context behind each person's individual situation.
