It looks like you got a QSO with Ft McMurdo in Antarctica. True? I am a retired NASA engineer and have worked with a mission using a ground station at McMurdo.

I've been heard a few times by that station using WSPR. That always makes me smile a bit.

but any good ideas for those who live in concrete buildings and only have small balconies or terraces where it is not easy to manage radials?!

Mag loops. But build your own. Hardline coax or copper tubing works best
@HOAHamRadio3 ай бұрын
I don't have that use case so I have no personal experience. I have repeatedly seen others respond with recommending mag loop antennas.

Do you need a grounding rod
@HOAHamRadio3 ай бұрын
Portable antennas for temporary (hours) operations use temporary ground radials in favorable weather conditions. Permanent / semi-permanent installations should have proper bonding and grounding (ground rod). I do. This antenna is feeding into my single entry utility box which has all my grounding / bonding.
