Remember guys, that's kind of automation for your melody building. You have separate pieces, but too lazy to test all combinations by yourself.

This is really awesome man! Thank you for this tool. I have a really hard time doing stuff in time, and even if I like to get lost in time, many times I just need to finish the important stuff first. It doesn't say what dists it supports, so I expect it to not matter. It because of the program you used to make it? I can't say I recognize the name.

Discovered you channel just today, sorry to hear you are having health issues. I hope you get better soon and some day will return with more energy. I'm 43 and have been wanting to learn to DJ and make my own music for a long time and maybe soon I finally get my thumb out... I will at least try DJing out. Making music is such a much bigger thing. I enjoyed the song in the end, the video looked like it could have been filmed in Sweden, but I noticed it was in Poland. :) I wish you well and hope to see you sometime in the future!

I'm gonna look through your other videos soon, but wonder if you have any newer videos than this one, maybe it isn't necessary if there haven't been any major changes to the software. I bought the Numark DJ2Go2 a couple of years ago and still haven't tried it with MIxxx, or at all actually. I am very curious if I'm gonna be a total disaster or if I might actually have an ok hand at this.. Never tried DJing at all before. Could you tell if there is any specific distro Mixxx works better under? I usually run an Arch fork of some kind, most recently EndeavorOS. I got as happily surprised as you got when you realized it could decode *.mod songs

Are there any hit songs or popular video games or soundtracks created with open source software?
@unfa0021 күн бұрын
@@stevendunn7928 Generally software used in film or game productions isn't credited unless it's a contractual obligation (like with Wwise and Fmod - both audio middleware for games). So unless an artist shares that on their own volition, it's unnknowable. And free software is not something artists want to brag about publicly because in the creative industry there's still a lot of "free tools ain't worth using" mentality. I think Audacity is very widely used everywhere for example, but it's not "the workhorse" and so little attention is paid to the fact it's free and open-source. There's recording studios using Ardour and Mixbus as the "workhorse", but I think plug-ins have better reach. So I think there's a high chance that something you hear on the radio or music festivals uses Surge XT or Vital, PaulStretch, maybe even PureData... Maybe ask in my community chat, there's people there who might know more :) chat.unfa.xyz

I have a Behringer UMC-1820 with the Behringer ADA8200 8 channel preamp. Using the optical connection it gives me 16 in/out via ADAT. I'm running Mint 22 and it only recognizes the 1st two channels on the UMC-1820. Do you know how to get this to work with all 16 channels in Linux? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How glad I am that I record audio exclusively, save that awesome avlinux x42 drumkit. Not being into electronic music, Ardour is heaven for the type of sound I make, the only thing bugging me is it crashes a lot because of pipewire, I guess I will have to fiddle with pipewire.conf, thanks for the tip though.

@ikehayes9252Ай бұрын

@unfa00Ай бұрын
Geonkick is still GPL-licensed so it's FOSS, but the official builds cost money now. On Linux that's a non-issue, because Linux distributions usually make their own builds so you can install it fro free from repositories. It does affect Windows users, as it's necessary to compile it yourself otherwise which is a challenge. I suppose the logic is that users who are running non-free operating systems would be able to afford the convenience of getting a pre-build binary. Linux users at large might not even notice the change. It's very similar to how Ardour and Zrythm handle things.

@clockFox09Ай бұрын
You know, if you enable envelopes in modulation/filter/etc, (wherever there's an option for an envelope) you can set it to freeform to draw in more points, and set it to repeat to turn it into a sort of lfo. Helps if there's some sort of modulation that you want to happen predictably.

Hello, I am trying hard to get my vintage synth visible in Ardour 8.2 It is a Yamaha SY-22, I connect it to an old TASCAM US-122 mkII (Linux sees it and I can play sound from another software called musescore). Then I connect my laptop wher eI run Ardour with a USB cable to the TASCAM. The Tascam is linked to the synth via old 5 pins midi cables. Is there someting about it somewher ein the documentation or any video? It has been hours trying to find out something about it. In brief Ardour doesn't sees the TASCAM nor the synth. I am running Ubuntu 22.04. Thank you.

I came back to this video because I was having a discussion about this subject with a streamer and I wanted to find Carl's video to show them. If you see this comment, please answer this question for me because I am bit curious. If there was a manufacturer of oil paints that, upon purchasing their paints, made you agree to a license saying you need to credit them in any piece of art you make using their paints, do you think that that license would hold up in court? Do you think the license would give them a legitimate claim of copyright over artwork made using their paints? I don't know, I highly doubt that. And to me that situation is essentially the same with instrument samples, even if they made a license saying something along the lines of "you have to credit us if you use our samples to create a piece of music", I just don't think they would be able to legally enforce that. I'm just trying to understand how you can be so on the fence over this, because to me the answer is very clear. Paul Battersby is right, the licenses of the samples in the sample library cannot possibly apply to music made with them. Anyway that's just my opinion. I'm really curious about how you might answer my question.
@unfa00Ай бұрын
@@QuotePilgrim I have since learned about transformative use and making music from samples is definitely a transformative process. However, I was also interested in the library's creator intent and if they weren't overriding licenses of other creators whom's samples were used. I have emailed Creative Commons and they told me they don't know how the license of samples can have an effect on music. It's easier when the original material is processed beyond recognition, but transformative use seems to occur whenever the resulting work cannot be a replacement for the source material. So unless your music just has the samples played one by one in a way that isn't artistic and clearly is meant to only "license wash" and make the track as easy to sample itself - you're fine. As I understand it now - a sample library's license demands for attribution, non-conmercial use and no derivatie works means that users aren't allowed to sell verbatim or modified copies of the *sample library*. I believe it does not apply to music created using the library, as that is transformative use, not a derivative one. Still - even creators of the CC licenses didn't provide me with a clear answer, so this is all speculation. BTW, I'm not giving legal advice, just sharing my personal interpretation. One might ask "what's the point of publishing a sample library if the license requires musicians to credit its use in their works metadata?". The library I think can be viewed as a tool, an instrument, but the tool depends on creative work of individuals who made the samples needed to make the library function. Yet any music that utilizes the library cannot be reversed into the library itself. The result is unique and not in any way could act as a replacement for the library. Hence - transformative use and a bordet beyond which the licensing requirements no longer apply. That's how I read it.

@@unfa00 Thank you for taking the time to respond. This really helps me understand where you stand on this. However, technically, _technically,_ you haven't answered the question that I actually asked. Don't worry, you don't have to answer it, I believe I have the information I need, I just think it is kinda funny that you weren't interested in engaging with the thought experiment whatsoever. I personally think if I tried to pull something like that, and made a paint store with a notice "by clicking 'purchase' you agree to credit me as co-creator of any artwork made using these paints", there is no way in heck a judge would rule in my favor if I tried to sue anyone who didn't credit me. This is 100% just my opinion, of course. Anyway, thank you again for you response, and have a nice day.

It really does take your creative work over time to the next level once you have learned to use it. I just wanted to thank you for posting this Unfa. I think this will have a huge impact on the quality of my creative output because of the efficiency of this method.
@unfa002 ай бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad my ideas were useful to you! Yeah, it's sometimes way more efficient to end a session and come back the next day with a fresh mind, rather than to spend extra hours grinding when you've exhausted your creative capacity for the moment. Sometimes pushing through is the right choice, but sometimes it just drains your energy for no gain :)
It is still libre software, just started to sell official binaries (like Ardour has been doing for years). But you can still build it from source, and Linux distributions will do that for you. So on a free operating system you'll easily get Geonkick for free as well. I expect if you run Windows it'll be harder to build Geonkick from source, but still possible.
