Used to get Quarter Eagles close to spot, while now they‘re double their spot price. Half Eagles and up are usually still fairly reasonable in price. Good bullion and collectible pieces, though they tend to lean towards the latter these days.

Platinum price is lower than its true extraction cost. Also platinum's 25-30 year inflation adjusted price, has increased less than gold or even silver in the same period. The over-concentrated mining of platinum and declining inventories, are ticking time bombs for 2025-26.

My grandfather had a decent horde of pre-33 gold coins he came to the US with in the 40s. He saved every coin until a family member he gave shelter, food, and cash to stole them all in the 1970s. Drugs make people do horrible things. Edit. Subscribed!

I think the problem with platinum is the combination of its rarity and its uses. This is true of all precious metals to some extent. If these metals were priced at their true value the things that are made with them would become unaffordable. Solar panels would cost over $250 dollars more and the catalytic converters would cost as much as the engine.

Florida Stacker, Thank you very much for this information. JM Bullion would have been struck from my potential sources, if they had not "Updated their tax information".

I stopped stacking silver dollars a few years ago after filling 7 tubes, the vast majority being Morgans. They've always been my favorite coin. I think I have 145 now as several are in display-type holders. As a kid in the early 60s, I remember going to Las Vegas with my dad and silver dollars were given as regular change. Dad brought home 10, but I could only afford to have$1 of my spending money tied up like that. lol As an adult, I was given one by the dealership owner when I bought a new Corvette in 2006.

Platinum is very young historically compared to gold and because of its rarity it’s never really been a money metal globally

I love platinum, but sold off all my random minted products and only stack fractional eagles and queens beast series now. Only because when I go to sell it's easier to move the eagles. I would like to stack alot more than I do but the premiums are very, high like silver has been, compared to gold
@floridastacker6 күн бұрын
Yeah fractional platinum draws a very high premium. You are right that the fractional eagles in gold or platinum are super easy to sell

While platinum is very rare, it also has a melting point of 3,216 degrees F, making it less than ideal as an industrial metal. I’ll choose GOLD every time.

Silver will likely rise to $100 /oz where it will set a major top. This might happen in 2026-2027, certainly not 2024-2025. Silver requires exceptional conditions like rising inflation or an extreme shortage in order to rise to $100 /oz which might not be its endpoint once it clears ATH.May 23, 2024
