You don't have the snorkel tube hooked up so the carburetor can receive prewarmed air to help smooth out the idle. No wonder your choke was frozen!!!!

Pump twice on really cold days, then to the floor and slow up to set the automatic choke. After start, wait 30 seconds and tap gas LIGHTLY to bring choke to mid level. Drive gently, first 2 miles to warm up tramsmission and grease along with engine. If running fast at a light, another tap will bring down revs. GO.

At least you know how to start a carbureted engine and you keep yours maintained! It seems that a bunch of ignorant drivers (and probably some idiots) don’t know how to start a carbureted engine (and/or keep the carbureted serviced), and then they blame the vehicle (and it takes them several times to get it to start).

My grandpa used to tell me a story all the time about back in the late 50's or 60's(whenever 12v became mainstream) he had a 1950(?) Maybe Ford with a 6v. He went to leave work at 11pm and it was like -15 out and his was the only one that started lol

I think you “flooded” it at first. No one today probably knows what that means. One good pump of the accelerator will do it better.

When I was in elementary school in the early 80's, a small private school, they had a Plymouth van that my mom drove. We picked up the other kids along the way to school. My job was to go outside before time to leave and get it cranked up. That Chrysler starter sound is indelibly etched in my memory, along with pumping the gas pedal and all the re-cranks needed to get it going and then racing the motor to keep it going.

This is what i got in 1976 as a teenager to drive myself and two brithers to school. I loved that car! I had Gabriel high jackers on it so the fenders would clear the Big Boss 60's on back lol, the cam went flat in the 400ci that was in it so a friend had a Lemans with a 389ci that had good cam and lifters so i put those in and also found a carter quadra jet on a boneville that had a 455ci in it at a salvage yard so i took manifold and carb and put it on my car. This is how a poor guy built his hot rod back in the day lol. Everything fit and the manifold bolted right up! It would smoke those Big Boss 60's just so you know lol.😎🤠👍oh the Lemans i took the good cam and lifters out of wasnt being used it was sitting in the woods said his brother had parked it there a year or so earlier, still owed money on it and didnt want the repo guy to get it lol. I shouldve got the his&hers shifter out of it but didnt need it at the time. Ya know that may have been a GTO been so long i cant remember, anyway cool cars like GTO's and roadrunner's, chevelle's where a dime a dozen back then. I mean the ones sitting and not being driven. 🤷‍♂️🙋‍♂️

these cars were daily drivers for everyone, and they would have to start no matter what. And it used to get a lot colder in them days.. especially up here in canada. My grandfather was the engineer at fords who would pull a random car off the line in the 30s and send it up north further to cold start it. and do run downs. tear it apart and figure out why and how to fix it if they didn't start or work properly.

Nice! I couldn't help but notice the dashboard switches. My dad is giving me his 1947 Lincoln which he's had since he was in college. He had replaced the vacuum powered windshield wiper motor with the 6 volt electric motor and switch from a Chrysler so they would work more reliably. Now I know what vintage Chrysler, those switches match!

The rear part looks like the Soviet GAZ-21. The communists were unable to come up with their own design and copied it from the Americans) And this car is not the only one from which the Russians copied the design.
