1975 Dodge Dart Cold Start Slant Six #2

Why do I sound Canadian at the start of this video? Anyway, here's one for all you carburetor haters out there. With a little bit of maintenance this is how an old vehicle should start.

I always heard people talking crap on the Valiants and Darts. They were good cars. The slant six was hard to kill.

my dad had a plymouth valiant, not sure of the year, and sold it for a 1975 Dodge Dart. 225, slant 6. Green. All green. Green vinyl seats, dash, even the steering wheel was green.

The reason people talk crap about them is because Chrysler’s quality control absolutely sucked . You either got a good Slant 6 or you got an oil drinking POS. We have a tendency to remember just the good things about these old cars and forget the horrible issues that they also had.

The 225 is known for it's legendary reliability. These were great motors, and the cars stated together as long as the subframe didn't turn to dust. Love these cars.

They were great, 45 years ago I owned a 1966 Valiant, 225 C.I.D. six drove it from N.J. to Idaho and back. Could not kill the engine ! 75 mph to 85 mph 12 hours a day on the interstates.

I owned a 67 Dodge dart, a 68 Plymouth valiant, and a 1970 Plymouth duster. All three had no trouble starting in the winter time down to zero it never gets that cold here in Portland. Thank you for showing the way that car is supposed to run instead of all of these guys trying to start a car by pumping pumping and pumping and flooding it.

My grandparents had one. Powder blue. Black vinyl hardtop. Loved that car as a kid in the 1970's.

It’s hottt when idle is set slower so there is lots of shaking and slowly die of the engine

Slant 6 for the win! Reading the instructions on the sun visor was brilliant. Rims the color of the car with poverty hubcaps warms the heart as well. Five stars!

My 74 Duster slant 6 was a great motor...ran for 5 minutess under load with ZERO oil pressure. Replaced oil pump and drove it 7 more years until selling to my brother.

At least you know how to start a carbureted engine and you keep yours maintained! It seems that a bunch of ignorant drivers (and probably some idiots) don’t know how to start a carbureted engine (and/or keep the carbureted serviced), and then they blame the vehicle (and it takes them several times to get it to start).

+WhoSaidTyler I sold the last one to a buddy and bought this one to replace it as my daily commuter. It is very very clean. It's from Wisconsin. Original paint and all. It even has the original ignition coil and plug wires! (probably not a good thing i know).

Honestly, the last one needed a new choke thermostat. That was it. Same engines, they both have the Holley 1945 Carb, and both are tuned good. The guy that drives the old one still hasn't fixed the choke. hahaha..... Maybe we like the drama of hard starting, rusty, old dodge.
