O.T.R will have you wishing that you never thought of becoming a truck driver! Trust me. I’ve driven for 23 years. But, only about 11 of those years have been O.T.R. I’ve driven for over 12 companies since 2013. That’s how F*cked up these companies are. Unlike most drivers, I don’t sit back and take bull crap from these companies. I did that for about 4 years of becoming O.T.R. Then I realized that these people just care about their bottom line, that it’s not about me, that all of those lectures about them caring about their drivers were just a way to patronize me. That no matter how hard I worked, it wouldn’t make me anymore important nor would it cause the companies to show me anymore consideration than they had been. I began to see total neglectful practices towards me. For instance, I would find myself stuck at a truck stop for days without any pay nor a load to haul. And, I’d get the ole “we’re still looking buddy-just be a little more patient with us-we’ll find you something somewhere” Or I’d be rushed to a shipper miles away only to find that they’re closed for the weekend. And, then by the time I’d arrived for my appointment around 1600, all of the D.M’s would have left and went home for the weekend. So, now I’d be stuck out for an entire 3 days without any pay or just layover pay which is most of the times only $50-150 per day which isn’t nearly close to what I would make if I had drove for those days. My average mileage pay was .65. I drove on average about 550 miles per day. If you multiplied that by .65, you’d get $364. And, if you multiplied that by 3 it would be $1,092. So, as you find, there would be a $728 loss which is a significant difference. And, over time, this loss adds up quickly. Because, it definitely won’t be the last time that I’d happen. But, of course, you’ll get the ole “i’m sorry buddy”. In addition, I had been hearing drivers constantly complaining everywhere I went. I tried ignoring their complaints. And, I even tried to avoid talking to them by acting like I was on a call 📞.😂 Yeah. But, I began to realize, after several years had went by, that everything that I had been hearing from those guys(who had been driving a lot longer than I) were definitely real! I began to become so enraged, stressed and furious! I began cussing my D.M’s out. Over and over. And, soon found myself terminated over and over again. So, after a while, I began realizing that it didn’t matter if I talked with them respectfully or disrespectful. It got me nowhere but in a worse predicament than I had already experienced. So, as I sat at a shipper one day, I devised a plan that would at least eliminate the constant stress that I’d been experiencing with these companies. And, I concluded that I would just began quitting on the companies once I found that they had become too stressful for me. Instead of fussing or cussing with my employers, I’d calmly ask my D.M “where do you want your truck? And, most of the times I’d get a Hyunh or what do you mean. Then I’d clarify my question. And, once they informed me where to leave their equipment, I’d take it there. And, then get a cab or UBER to a nearby Greyhound bus terminal. But, I began to realize that this method worked best for me. Because, most of the times, someone from upper management would contact me to inquire my reason(s) for quitting. But, I stand strong on my decisions. So, it didn’t matter what they promised. I wasn’t going for it. Because, at that point, all of my reckoning was over. I had to show them that I meant business. Because, I knew that this would be the only way to gain respect from people with that sort of mindset ($$$$). And, I knew that other drivers who were experiencing similar situations weren’t going to stand on business. So, I never relied on them to do anything other than cry whenever a problem arose. I’m still driving O.T.R. And, I’m still experiencing the same issues. But, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to change careers. And, that this is my last year working as an OTR trucker. And, once enough drivers quit, they’ll be forced to either change the way they do things or began integrating A.I. to accommodate the shortage. Either way, would be fine by me. Because, theirs people only care about money. The drivers and D.M’s don’t matter, at all! Yeah, My D.M just called it quits last Monday. ----

I'm an older guy who is a fairly new tractor trailer driver. I take my responsibility very seriously. I don't touch my phone while operating my vehicle and I do my pre-trip inspections religiously. I'm astounded by the fact that so many truck drivers are lazy and lackadaisical about their duties, yet I see it every day.

No triangles out on that truck on the shoulder? Distracted driving is bad of coarse, but was that truck broke down? Why was it on the shoulder. Why were there no triangles out?

You have no idea how long that truck had been stopped. It takes more than 3 minutes to get triangles out.

Why are there so many trucks parked in the emergency lane these days? Is there really that many break downs or do new breed truck drivers think they can just park on the shoulder for any reason they want? Even to just take a break? I see it everyday, trucks parked on the shoulder, no triangles, nothing. I don't know the reason of coarse but it seems epidemic. Late model trucks too. Are the trucks really that bad or is something else going on?

Easy to pull over…unless it’s 2AM and the truckstops are full, ramps are dangerous and you will be ticketed, and 90% of businesses with large lots have a “no trucks” sign. The struggle is real.

It's what pisses me off about electronic logs. It can't account for the human factor. It almost forces drivers to drive sleepy sometimes. The machine does not know when you are tired or awake. Paper logs were abused but there are times electronic logs cause drivers to drive fatigued. I see it all the time.

I think getting quality sleep is probably one of the hardest things to do on the road. It definitely helps so to get some exercise every day and stay away from the caffeine after maybe 1 o’clock in the afternoon but a lot of times what happens is You’re trying to make it to somewhere and you feel a little bit tired and then you drank a cuppa coffee or something to give you that burst energy to get you that little bit extra that you want and then now when you park you can’t fall asleep, so you just fuck around with your phone and then next thing you know it’s the next day and maybe you only slept five hours at night instead of seven and it gets to be a vicious cycle if you let it

Lol! I took down a house electrical mast 100 yds off the road... Stretched the wire till it pulled the whole thing off the house and it broke at the house and 100 yds of power line snapped back to my teuck and wrappeded with live 220 volts or more and all emergency people said not your fault.... If it was below 13.6 ft unwrapped me and away i went!! Lol!

Every driver should have at least 1 person they can talk with to help keep tabs on them. Friend or family. Even if it's just a check in phone call to say hey, I'm alright!

There's nothing to conversate about. 100% accurate on everything you said. The driver sounds like he used the few instances to take advantage of the employer when he was a lazy driver anyways. Better save whatever of that money you get because you won't be around for long even though they court ordered his job to be reinstated. They'll find something.
