Isn’t there then a conflict in law? Theft in a shop (for example) is theft when you take something and appropriate it, even without leaving the premises. That wouldn’t be permanently depriving though

@16:00 - Malcolm Gladwell’s book ‘Talking to Strangers’ has a series of good examples as to why the way that we think people “should” behave in given circumstances rarely reflects how people actually behave in the real world. Worth a read.

I'm finding the current excuses from Police and media to ignore the flurry of extremely annoyed statisticians complaining about the very poor presentation of statistical evidence absolutely infuriating. The current line seems to be "It wasn't really a statistical case and we didn't present any statistics - just a spreadsheet". Can you imagine if they'd presented fingerprint evidence that was later called into question by forensic experts and their excuse was that it wasn't provided as forensic evidence because they'd not had it prepared by a fingerprint expert, they were just showing the jury photos to show the fingerprints were similar? They'd be laughed out of court. The fact that they didn't get a proper statistician in to prepare the statical data for them isn't the win they seem to think it is.

No wonder those countries are trying to change history. The biggest reason why the western empires ie Spain/France/Britain have a leg to stand on is because they “kept the receipts”, nothing more powerful than to keep records. I hope that our western governments are keeping the artefacts AND the documentation safe from the arsonists because that will be their next step. They are burning down French culture(hundreds of centuries old churches) as we speak.

Perhaps take a photo or two of your precious painting or artifact, without a digital camera. With an older type camera, not using an App; because if you don't share it on soc. media you have bona fide proof hidden away, not accessible to anyone you don't know.

I live in Guernsey, Channel Islands, which was occupied by German forces in WWII. The Nastier Germans stole quite a bit of stuff which the German museums the refused to give back to the still living and rightful owners. Hypothetically, if it was stolen back, could they sue to get it back again from the rightful owners?

Very interesting...here in Australia Kathleen Folbigg was convicted of murdering her 4 babies in part on diaries the police found and now has had the convictions overturned (it was also questionable science/evidence) and, as you say, Lindy Chamberlain didn't cry as people expected her to...

I'm sorry but how do you know they are the therapy notes? But I agree the whole notes should have been shown to the jury. But it's just other evidence, the keeping of baby documentation, not just an odd random few, but carrier bags full, especially relating to the babies harmed. As a nurse, this sets a huge red flag. Her odd behaviour in the unit, returning on nights off , wanting to work with specific babies and being disgruntled when put in another unit, leaving medications unsigned for, being present watching a baby's oxygen levels fall because of a dislodged tube, with the alarms switched off. All these are huge markers. It's a complex case.

I’m not sure the police still practice this. Regarding the ESDA testing. I was on jury service in the mid 90s. It was a drug dealing case. All the evidence was police notebook based. No photographs or video surveillance were submitted because of a fear the safe house would be identified. The defendants home was raided and no drugs or drug paraphernalia could be found. So ultimately, the entire case was based on the Police notes. What I and the judge found disturbing was the new police procedure that had recently been introduced. A plastic sheet with surveillance instructions had been produced. This had surveillance guidance printed on it to assist the police making the notes. This plastic information sheet would be placed directly under the page being written on. This was claimed to help support the page, like a clipboard and be close to hand for reference. This plastic support obviously rendered the ESDA test useless. After a long tough afternoon of discussions and no unanimous conclusion by the jury the judge changed our decision to majority and the defendant was found guilty. I often think about the experience and shake my head.

Re Jewish property and it’s left by a vile organisation, how dare the American government legitimise its left. Why fight a war to stop an evil ideology then behave in a similar fashion? There more I read I sense a jealousy of how Jewish people use their nature given abilities to both survive and better themselves in their standards of living. Their ability to adapt such be celebrated. There are other races that have done similar over millennia for example the Romans. It’s funny how their eventual collapse was around the world of finance and greed. Great video, thank you.

No issues with a discussion on giving the Elgin Marbles back however were bought and exported legally from the Ottoman Empire who was the de facto government over Greece at the time. They are not "looted" or "stolen" as some would have it. It should be discussed but what's irritating is it's always British Leftists/Socialists who make the biggest noise about it but have never taken an interest to even see them.

I used to be more pro UK museums keeping stuff, I have a friend in Egypt who told me about the illegal trade in artefacts. People who live in old city's dig under the house looking for gold artefacts, the law says you have to hand it to the Government but illegal sales make money. Today after the UK scandal of stolen items going on ebay & seeing a lot of museums lose funding needed to preserve items, I am not sure what's best. Id like to think the UK is stable and relatively safe place to keep things, it's not rare for less stable countries to end up losing a lot of artefacts. To be cheeky, the Romans did take all the Welsh gold. May be time to ask Vatican City to return it.

Do these laws also apply to land/buildings? I ask because we hear of land/buildings being left to Councils, presumably for public enjoyment, and Councils then disposing of them, often for development. In regards to art there is some contention about who owns , and can dispose of, the artworks held by Birmingham City Council.
