Concete is the reactive substance (Portland cement) which functions as a bonding agent and concrete is cement, sand, aggregate and water.

Okay, stupid question time.... I get that as a mix you would use Concrete on things like walkways, driveways and the like. But then what applications would you use cement only on?

Great, simple, informative video! Saw a couple of the other comments on here! If you wanted, you could probably continue this little explainer series, and go into other things like making concrete stronger (rebar, fiberglass, etc.), what is mortar, etc., and even get into the physics aspects of concrete strength, etc., you know, if you wanted to go that route :)

So why use concrete over just the cement by itself? I'm going to assume it's stronger or last longer or something?

Michael good video as always. The way i always explain it is that concrete is a homogeneous mix of sand and aggregates held together with a binder. In cement concrete the binder is cement, in coal tar concrete used for road construction, the binder is coal tar. Technically speaking, even a mix of sand, aggregates and epoxy will be an epoxy concrete

Dad taught me this method about 1970. He was a Navy Seabee in WWII on Iwo Jima and elsewhere. He and my brother built a garage when my brother was just starting his excavation business and had no money. They used old bed springs from the dump as rebar. (They did not do dry pour for the garage.) The garage floor has not yet cracked after 40 years.

I remember seeing Jamaicans build a pier in Jamaica on the cheap because they could pull sand right off the beach and a bag of cement is cheap. I questioned whether is would be strong with the salt and other organics in the beach sand, but it was apparently "good enough".

The salts in the sea and will corrode and compromise the concrete in the future. Reminds me of the skyscraper along the beach in Florida that collapsed
@JohnHansknechtКүн бұрын
@@jeremiahthompson82 Not so sure. Concrete hardens underwater, even in seawater. Salt finishing is a common aesthetic finish. Have it on my pool deck. The concrete immediately next to the rock salt hardens just fine and then they use a hose to dissolve the salt and leave the sharp holes. Rebar, however, will corrode if exposed to salt and oxygen.

These vids would be way more "watchable" minus the over-hyped, comedic relief. Itz a put-on, and very likely doesn't reflect the "real" man at all.

Good day Michael, your vids are awesome. Your sense of humor is a 11! Would like to ask a question of you.... Cement board, can it be used plain (no tile or skim coat) as is, in a wet situation or does it need a treatment coat of some kind, ofc the seams need to be caulked I've been researching a particular style for years for my shower/bathroom dystopian style, yes there's coating kits and faux treatments but they're not right. I always end back at cement board is just perfect but i jus can't find the characteristics. Was wondering if you had any thoughts. Thank you for your time & thoughts.

You should also touch on mortar, being cement and just sand.

What will happen if you do not add stone to your mix?
@mosmosspamКүн бұрын
Stone is really just a filler, without the stone it is a type of mortar, Just takes more of it to get the job done.

Followed your direction, patched up the curb in front of my house and my neighbor's house and it looks great. Cement All is no joke quick curing so folks, this guy is spot on. It cures quickly and I mean like in 10 minutes and you're going to be hard pressed to work it. I'm a design engineer and if I can do this, you can too. Will be reporting back this time next year. Thanks again for the video!

So, you only purchase cement if you are going to use it to make your own concrete mix. Correct?
@seigeengineКүн бұрын
Other common uses are mortar (nix the gravel), or as a surface coat (nix both), or there are other applications (soil stabilization for instance), but yes.
