The 1st method has to have enough liquid to make it over the bend to start the flow. The 2nd method works because of the vacuum you create with the rag. People have said they use this for water swaps in aquariums too 🙂👍

SOME TIPS: Physics for nerds. Water (or other liquids) pressure is proportional to its height. When water height in the hose OUTSIDE of container is larger than water height in the hose INSIDE of container, the outward pressure of water is larger than the inward pressure of water. The net pressure is going outward and sucks the water out of container. Practical application. Close output end of hose with a thumb. The hose needs NOT be fully filled with water. Pull output end of hose down until the water level in the hose near the output end is lower than water level in container, and let go the thumb. Water will flow out of container naturally. If all the water in the container is to be siphoned out, the length of hose must be at least (double the height of container + the hose section filled with air).

@@3BricksHigher Wow! That made it much easier and quicker! We have a campground with a whole lot of pine trees. When I try raking them, they just roll away. I used a large fishing net and a 5 inch rake. (I don't have any golf clubs.) The rake was helpful to loosen the smaller ones that were slightly imbedded in the grass. Game changer! Thanks!
