This isn't correct. GSR2 phase 2 requires any new cars registered after July 7th to be compliant, not just cars built after July 7th. Therefore existing stock that a dealer may have, which has not yet been registered, must be updated to comply with regulations before sale.

LOL, does it take into account the distraction caused by drivers being unable to operate basic controls without looking at a TV set mounted in the middle of dashboard?

Why are all of these ADAS features mandated, whilst new vehicles are being fitted with increasingly large touch screens? With more & more basic features being integrated into them? For example, climate control adjustment shouldn't require the driver to navigate through several menus, which takes their eyes off of the road. In my older car, I know where the climate control knobs are, just by feel. I don't gave to take my eyes off of the road.

Hey, is that a 'Mustang' Mach-E The small non-Mustang electric SUV that Ford named the Mustang in the hope nobody would notice it's a Cute Ute instead of a Mustang? Those are selling like colonoscopies in the US.

ALKS is so dangerous, and here in the EU you can't even turn it off permanently, thanks to Euro NCAP. In a drive that lasted a little over an hour, I've had it both almost push me off the road into a ditch, as well as almost hit a cyclist. And yes, I was paying full attention, it just jerks the wheel sometimes. Extremely annoying.

Agreed, some of the new “safety” features are ironically making cars more dangerous.

Where do I find the "distraction factor" score, i.e. how many unnecessary gizmos, convoluted controls, buttons that don't feel tactile and require extra attention - if there are any buttons - and so on a car has?

I rented a car today that had this feature. Absolutely horrific. I didn't realise what was going on at first.

Lane assistance is a dangerous feature. It feels like I'm fighting to keep control of the wheel. I feel EXTREMELY unsafe with it turned on.

Active safety systems are necessary today. I also want to see better driver monitoring to react to things like heart attacks or seizures.

I've had ESC save my ass before went a little too crazy on the off ramp with snow tires forgot we had just swapped them over. Even with it limited it will step in and save the day.

So the award goes to an ICE vehicle! Why was the award not confirmed to all ICE or all EV? Why would you buy an ICE because it’s safer than an EV (by a couple percentage points)? Surely, you would make a decision on either an ICE or an EV - then look at safety as one criterion for your choice.

Unnecessary. People enjoy driving. Tougher driver training would make roads much safer and enable people to enjoy being in control of a vehicle.

well researched by thatcham..automated driving technology would worrk better if there was sensors in the roads and also if smart motorways beamed out information such as lane closed instead of relying on thr car to detect everything

Brilliant research. I've no doubt that the future of motoring and commuting is autonomous, but it's no where near ready yet. And the main problem isn't the automation part, it's that where there's Human drivers and autonomous drivers mixed in, that's when problems get bad. And I mean, a LOT worse than just having Human drivers ion the roads.
