I now know why Mom always talked so long with her friends she saw at the store, a friend of mine who I haven't seen for 7 years spotted me and we talked for nearly an hour as we both caught up with each other's lives.

A few years after that came out, Philco introduced the exceptionally cool & quite unreliable Predicta that pretty much tanked the company. Then Ford got them. Heard a lot about it growing up, as my uncle owned a Ford dealership. Great tune & good looking radio!

That’s a toe tapper for sure 😂 I have a 1200, which was the portable version, minus the radio. They’re fun to play with, but I think they must have been aimed at people who didn’t have a lot of records. If you want to listen to more than a few, all the flipping and swapping gets old.

@ Wouldn’t you rather put a whole stack of records on a changer and let the machine do all the work? I’m a record lover, too-I have thousands of 78s. And the thought of playing them one at a time makes me want to lie down. 😂

@@dwderp sometimes but a lot of the time i just doing it myself i got thousands of all kinds of records too just a happy thing to have some of all varieties like my friend DB at KBRD 680 am, in Lacy Washington, just countless it would take a decade for me to catch up to him, but yes i do both a machine to do a stack or too but i also love doing them one at a time.

Any one remember the comany Muzak? Below is copied and pasted from: Search Labs AI. Muzak is a brand of background music that plays in public establishments and retail stores. The company was founded in 1934 and has been owned by several companies, including: Westinghouse: Bought the company in 1981 and ran it until 1986 The Fields Company: Bought the company in 1986 Generation Partners: Purchased the company in 1992 and grew it through acquisitions and sales Mood Media: Bought the company in 2011 for $345 million History of Muzak - Mood Media Muzak's name is a combination of the words "music" and "Kodak", a popular brand name at the time. The company's mission was to create background music that was soothing and inspiring, but not so noticeable that it would distract customers or employees. Muzak's popularity peaked in the 1950s and 1960s, when it was used in the White House and by NASA. The company's "Stimulus Progression" feature was a series of 15-minute segments of increasingly energetic music that was intended to boost productivity in offices. Muzak's technology set the stage for almost a century of instrumental background music that became a soundtrack to postwar America. However, the Muzak brand went bankrupt in 2009 and lost its name in 2013. Today, the term "Muzak" is often used as a generic term for any background music, regardless of its source.

A great soundtrack, however, I'd contest that 20:56 feels more appropriately categorized as 80s Japanese train commercial music than 70s department store music. Otherwise, this is a pleasant plethora of the stuff. In particular, 29:21 is so divine it makes chills run down my spine; a standing ovation for that series of crescendos, which invoke imagery in the mind's eye of leisurely perusing through aisles of affordable American-made items available in abundance during the Golden Age of the USA!

They took this from you. Its your culture. Then they put a minstrel on tv sagging its pants and told you to worship it. Then they put a phone in their hand because they were to dumb to use desktops, now they are everywhere destroying everything and lowering your countries standard.

I remember to have rented a parking space in an old department store's car park (Hertie Wilmersdorfer Straße - long gone) in the late 1990ies in the western Berlin city center. Everything there had fallen out of times even from a 1990ies perpective - mechanical keys and still a human cashier. And they had a worn Background Music System they forgot to replace, playing such music all the time to cover the hollow sound of slamming car doors three stories up and to make the place a bit less spooky which it was anyway.

You've read all the comics, looked at all the toys, played hide-and-seek in the clothes racks, and just when you get the feeling you may be lost and you'll be stuck at the store forever you see her - your mom by the exit clearly tired from the ordeal but smiling. It's time to go home. She asks if tomato soup and a grilled cheese sound good for lunch. The groceries in the trunk, you're staring out the window in the back and you hear her say maybe McDonald's is better. Sitting at home hearing the rustling of a paper bag as goods are put away munching on a hamburger playing with a new toy. Maybe you'll watch some cartoons later. Perhaps play the Atari. Who knows you have all day nothing matters nothing is wrong you're troubled about nothing. I'm not crying.... you're the one who's crying.
