Hi Ian! Question with regards to infantry pursuit of cavalry when charged in flank, rear, or irregular formation. Is it correct that you fight the first round (charging round) and then 2nd round, but cannot fight a 3rd?

@@Jimbo818 Correct! Assuming you win, infantry cannot pursue cavalry or chariots more than once after a flank or rear charge.

How do you play the banner of shielding typically - do you roll all saves at once and remove the standard benefit after all dice are rolled, or do you roll dice individually until a stand is killed and then subsequent hits don't get the armour buff? (Sounds pedantic I'm sure, but the former is obviously more advantageous)

@Jimbo818 you roll all saves at full effect until the unit has lost a stand. So if you take ten hits in one round, you roll ten dice with the bonus from the banner. If this is sufficient to remove a stand, the banner is then lost.

Hello! Question for you regarding home back, on two instances in the book it states may fly 'up to' 10xd6, however states later must move full distance. Would you be able to clarify what the 'up to' means? (Seems its actually stay still or move fully).

@@Jimbo818 Yes, the max distance you can home back is the roll of one d6 times 10 cm, so 10 to 60 cm. You must home back towards your nominated character, and cannot go past them. So the distance to the character may well be different to the home back distance that you rolled. Just move as far as you can towards the character, up to the max distance you rolled.

Hello again. Must have watched each of your videos at least a dozen times 😅 Couple of questions - 1. Of infantry is in column formation, does each stand in front block the line of sight if the one behind? E.g. can my middle of last stand see something to it's right or left? 2. If a character is joined to a unit of daemons and it does due to instability whilst in combat (or even generally) does the character die? Cheers!

@@Jimbo818 glad to help. 1. Infantry stands in column do block each other's line of sight. So only the front stand can see to shoot, but the whole unit can use the front stand's line of sight to charge, for example. You can see this example in the 2024 FAQ in the warmaster journal. 2. Yes, if a character is joined to a unit that gets removed from play for any reason, the character dies too!

Hey! Love this game. Was thinking of playing some warmaster at warhammer world also. I know they let you play as long as you are using their minis. But a lot of my stuff off ebay without bases and .. who knows *might* be recast or something. Did they check over your models and bases at all?

Always appreciate these video, they're a constant source of referral for me and people I play warmaster with. I have a rules question if you don't mind - I believe a unit (even infantry) cannot finish its move straddling a wall, this can leave some loopholes whereby a unit can position itself 1cm behind a wall and render itself immune to being charged/attacked, likewise if a retreat finishes 1cm backed up from a wall, that would prevent pursuit (an extreme case of this could be a square set of walls with troops internally 1cm away from all sides... Have I just imagined that troops cannot straddle walls if not, how do you approach this situation (typically we just forbid it/straddle the wall).

@@Jimbo818 walls or other obstacles only impede chariots, artillery and machines. Other unit types can cross them just fine. Either put the stands on top of the wall or move the wall to the side while the stands are fighting.

Ian, Yet another quick question (on a 3 year old video, if you are kind enough to address this)... @20:46 the second demon unit (red) is using their initiative to charge the marauders. The first of the red stands appears to pass through a portion of the golden demons in order to get into center-to-center contact with the marauders. I don't think that would be legal, as the rules (pg 36) state: "...This stand must be able to see the enemy and must have a clear path to the target." I question whether there is clear path to the target in this situation, as you cannot move through friendly units in the game, besides a special situation like a Burst Through, and even then, the unit being moved though must be unengaged in combat (which includes supporting units). Are you really allowed to slip laterally a centimeter in order to line up with the target stand center unit as shown? That is, the term "Clear Path", does not have to be a direct path AND you can slip laterally to line up, even when you are touching the enemy? In this example, you would be in contact with both the golden demons AND the marauders, before the lateral movement is made.

Of course! A clear path does not have to be a straight line, nor the shortest route, when charging. So the charging stand can pivot around the golden demons. When the first charging stand makes contact to the nearest enemy stand, it must form up in front edge to edge contact. There is no rule to state that the first charging stand halts at the point first contact is made. So in this case, the first charging stand is compelled to form up against the central enemy stand by sliding in to place across the front of the enemy unit. It will not interesect any other stands when doing so. Remaining stands then form a battle line but cannot move through the first charging stand.

@@iainmstanding Thanks for that interpretation. We will play it that way. I would note, however, that this seems like a logical inconsistency with the example @24:50. Just because the golden demons in that example cannot see or contact the rear of the marauders (understanding that they are in their rear zone which is blocked by impassable terrain), it would seem consistent with the above interpretation (where you can slide around to make contact), that this charge couldn't be made with a single order, hitting the Marauder's flank. I guess I will have to take that one up with the Rules Committee! 🤷♀
