Thankyou for so aptly summing up so many people's thoughts of the Old World ruleset in the fiirst 5 minutes

Of all the battle reports I’ve seen covering Old World (or Warmaster, for that matter), I enjoy yours the most: narrative battles, with armies that make sense, contained, very well narrated, and to the point. I hope you keep them coming in the current narrative and smallish format, but also expand both the scope and size of your battles if it suits you. Well done

Great video. Love the bite-sized TOW content, great music, narrative & gags inbetween. One I will revisit, keep it up!

There's something really satisfying about seeing 500 point games like these, definitely reassuring that you dont need 1k+ points to make great games

Really enjoyed the bat rep. I really like how you are doing bat reps under 30 minutes. I find it allows it easy to make time to watch and get a sense of a game. Also enjoying all the older models and narrative style. Cheers

Was wondering if you would cover this game and I'm happy to see you are. How could you make it even better? Tomb Kings you say? Excellent! Thanks for the great upload.

Those are some ancient models - I love them! Whereabouts in the UK are you - if you're around the east mids I'd love to arrange a clash between two tribes of Nehekhara! How well do you find the game works in these small size battles? EDIT: The Chaos Spawn - was that made from green stuff and bits or is that a really, really old model?

Agreed on the solid rules and especially balanced army lists.. But I did like the 6th Ed rules, alot, and that era. Especially the Ravening Hordes. but the army books were mostly okay. I especially liked the army lists creations with slots.. By far the best so far in my humble opinion.. The Old World seems a little too character heavy, potentially, for my tastes.. But I like alot of it.. Again, maybe a little too many special rules on many units.. but it is by far better than the 8th Ed which i think was the worst edition. Though the incredibly inbalanced and stupid books from 7th Ed and 8th Ed had a alot to do with it.. Glad you are giving it a go, The Old World. Curious to see what you say as i type this 1 minute in.. ;)

Oh don´t rebase! Keep the backwards compability. Play with spacers or not at all.. it is hardly that important, especially for a nice game at home..

Hi Iain, I do like your Warmaster video series very much and hence I was interested in what you have in store for WHTOW. I have 3 games now "under my belt". I've played WHFB since it's 3rd Edition, had a break during 4th. and 5th, and restarted with 6th, playing through to eight and some of the fanbased adaptions ( Warhammer Classic Edition based on 6th., WAP ) However, in the meantime, I had a chance play also other games, such as warmaster in 28mm scale, Hail Caesar and Kings of War. Playing the Old World after such experiences was really a step back. What I also find is, that smaller games in TOW seem to be rather unbalanced. As with many TT rulesets. For such small point values, a skirmisher ruleset would be preferable, I think. Larger battels around 2000 p seem to be the way to go in order to get at least a feeling of what GW calls a "massed fantasy battles"..Where as in some of my AOS armies I have more puppets on the table then in TOW @1.999 pts. In general, I feel today that TOW is in some aspects ( heroes / dragons ) rather unbalanced, in it's rules compared to other fantasy tabletops very complex. This makes up for a rather time consuming game with comparably little action. So I am inclined to believe, a kind of Warmaster revolution'ish ruleset is way more my taste then this brewed up WHFB ruleset. As there is the saying : Everything has it's time, I believe this kind of overly complex rulesets will become obsolete sooner rather than later, once the hype is over and people are faced with players exploiting the holes in the ruleset ( "Linehammer" & Herohammer, once again i.e. ). All the best and thanks for the good work !

The chariots into the marauders you mention the chanpion can still fight because no attacks were directed against him? How does this work? Do you have to specify him as a target?
@iainmstanding8 ай бұрын
That is how we played it. The impact hits were against the unit as a whole and I forgot to target the champion with any crew or steed attacks. It makes for a better game in my opinion if both sides get to do some attacks.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback, is it the music, or the narration, or both that is too quiet? I will look at my microphone settings in case there is a problem my end. You can use closed captions to read the narration if you prefer. Thanks for watching!

How do you close to balance with points costs? Cuz normally i thought stuff like tomb scorpions were limited to only 1000pts+ games
@iainmstanding7 ай бұрын
The army building rules don't really cater well for under 1000 pt lists, so we use 1000 pt min max, but cap the limited choices at 0-1.
