During my master's I chose to do a report classifying neos and visualizing them in 3D space. I had never done it before, but it was a really fun project and I never expected myself to do something like that. I am grateful for NASA's free API, though the restrictions could be slightly less. Also more free API would be appreciated, as it took a lot of hopping between websites to figure out which apis to use. You see, i didn't know anything about neos/space terminologies beyond the basic stuff we all know, so it was hard to understand it all. Is there a good aggregate api website WITH good explanations of what the different API mean I wonder!

I thought of the most interesting thing while you were talking about this. How many possible planets can you get inside of a habitable zone that would support advanced lifeforms on earth? I know the answer would change for each type of star or type, but what would that be?
@XAirForcedotcom2 күн бұрын
How far do plants have to be away from each other to not have their gravity negatively affect each other and how big does a planet have to be to have advanced life on it? Lol

Awww nice. We did this when I studied physics ages ago. Implemented several numeric integration algorithms (Gauß, Leapfrog, Runge-Kutta ...) by hand and used them to simulate the solar system. Observing i.e. how the energy behaves and like how the Gauß algorithm lets the energy explode and the planets fly away after some centuries. (As it always moves a little to much using only the derivatives at the present position.)

28:01 Haha, I read the book ages ago, only retaining the scant interesting parts apparently; I saw Angela Collier's video 'The Sham Legacy of Richard Feynman', thinking 'I don't remember any of this', but it checks out for Feynman :/ . Also, if this is your area, surely a million people have mentioned 3 Body Problem to you... do you have any opinions of it's use of time in fiction? If you only saw the Netflix series, don't be put off reading it (or the translation)
@NorasGuidetotheGalaxy3 күн бұрын
I did read the series! I really enjoyed it. The science was not quite right with the 3 body problem itself, but it was still so cool to see my subject area used as the basis of a story, and I really liked the explanation about the dark forest in relation to the Fermi paradox. The Netflix series was kinda meh, I hope future seasons are a bit better.

if two object are separating at close to the speed of light, they don't attract each other in gravity, since gravitation attraction acts at the speed of light. Right?
@SiriusSphynx4 күн бұрын
I think gravity as the warping of space is not bound by the speed of light. That's why the expansion of the universe is greater than the age would allow it if it was bound to that rate.
@lethargogpeterson40834 күн бұрын
I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, it is more the change in gravitational fields propogate at the speed of light, like gravitational waves. So, I think they would still feel each others' gravitational pull, but the gravitational "information" at their location might be a bit old, as if the other body had not moved so far away just yet? Maybe?
@toddwasson3355Күн бұрын
@@lethargogpeterson4083 I've wondered that for years. The waves move at the speed of light, so I've always wondered if it's really right to take everything at it's current position. It seems like it wouldn't be but I don't really know.
