@@mattschaeferdesign is the space jockey the same one from LV-426? or is it a separate guy?
@mattschaeferdesign24 күн бұрын
@@stevenirizarry1304 Separate. But im trying to stay close to Giger's vision. Minus the fused to chair part. Treat it more as a creature/monster and give it telekinesis like in the Dark Horse "the Alien" comic from '91.

@@mattschaeferdesign fascinatingly, aliens: dark descent revealed the existence of a separate race of beings called the “ancient citizens” who are basically closer to the idea of the original space jockey who are more ancient than the engineers, so if you ever pitch this as an official story, you can just make the jockey of your story into an ancient citizen rather than an engineer

Your vision of the Space Jockey makes a lot of sense. With these dorsal tubes actually originating from the SJ.

This is amazing! How did you make the effect where the brushstrokes on the boat sort of move up and down? It gives it so much life.
@mattschaeferdesignАй бұрын
@@bouncycow3010 Hey thanks! This was made in VR with Quill which allows you to paint 3D geometry, spatially, over time. The combo of those things allows for wild results. Quill is also high performance so you can do all this crazy stuff in VR in real-time. And it’s super smooth.
@bouncycow3010Ай бұрын
@@mattschaeferdesign thanks! So do you mean you had to repaint the boat every frame and move the brushstrokes bit by bit?
@mattschaeferdesignАй бұрын
@@bouncycow3010 I set up a loop. I think this one is 2 sec loop at 24 frames per sec. Then just paint and it will capture the strokes over time. You can see it in action @2:53

I got to check this out in VR and found aspects that didn't translate to video. I love the concept of leaning in to hear each portrait tell its story and removing the noise from the others. This so mirrors the multifaceted nature of self and is wonderfully interwoven with the overall theme. Great piece! Stuff like this is a great reminder that VR/spatial art is a new frontier for artists to explore! I do also appreciate the peek behind the scenes for those that are interested in how the bread is made!

Hey thanks! Quill excels at capturing your personality. It's really hard (for me) to do that with other 3D/anim tools. So I mostly use Quill for those type of projects/use cases. More then say fitting Quill into traditional pipelines. Tho I know people who do and make it work. So it's def possible.
