PILOT | Orbiter + Dropship | Quill

Lots of steps to get here but finally finished both ships in Quill. So now Pilot has intro instructions, title sequence, and a few scenes running in VR! Had a lot of fun exploring cameras for this vid. Some might translate to Spawn Area views in the actual story.
Pilot is a PCVR / Quill personal project so I can work towards higher poly count in the hero assets. The dropship is at 320k and the orbiter/tunnel is targeting 2.5M. I could have gone crazy and highly optimized these but then Pilot would never get done. I will be able to keep polys down in the majority of other scenes since there will be deep shadows.

Now I do know you have tell me nearly last year ago about your cool & Interesting Ailen fan made film called The Pilot, will take a long time to finish. I do have some question for you Matt: are you still working on it and if you are? Are going to get voice actors for your characters what you have made for The Pilot short film? Including you are still continuing putting more videos of your animation, sound and music test videos for The Pilot on KZbin? I do like to see more of it. looks pretty good. But still want to see the finish version of it. But keep up good work no rush.👍

Hey thanks! Yup I’m still chiseling away at it. I’ve even planned it out across a 10 year roadmap. So my target is finishing it by 2028. It’s impossible to predict what form it will take by then so I’m pivoting as things change. Currently still on track to release it as a PCVR experience in Quill. Voice actors are planned for later in down the roadmap (2026 or so).

Hey ! Amazing work ! Could you maybe put in your description the (average of course) amount of time it took to make this ? I’m really curious about the benefits of VR in 3D art, like speed improvement

Thank you! I’ve been slowly chiseling away at this for months. So it’s kinda hard to guess a timeframe. But in general I feel like VR is crazy fast since your interacting with the software in a physical way. Also makes organic stuff way easier. There’s a bunch of other stuff to consider for pro modeling but for my use case VR is like having creative super powers.
