Thanks bro I'd like to know how necessary is the thermostat in my bmw I e36 316I 1997 model im from Capetown south Africa,,,ISMAIEL
@e36fanatics2913 күн бұрын
It won't cause your engine to overheat but it can cause some issues with performance. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it bas it can impact performance. Thermostat restricts coolant flow when the engine is cold so it can get up to optimal temperature, then it opens up.

Over 4 decades, BMW still can't correct this overpriced repairs on M30 engines. Camshaft worns & needed to be replaced Just like they can't come up with a new badge without falling off after 9 years. Just buy a Honda, Hyundai or a Toyota and you won't have worn camshaft. For a face, you get better re-sales on Asian and German vehicles.

I have a 95 E36 that I've owned for about 10 years. It's one of the best cars I've ever had. It's low maintenance, and when it does need work, I find that parts are plentiful and affordable, and I do the work myself so I don't pay labor costs. I would be very cautious purchasing another just because I've seen first-hand how people abuse them (especially Ms). BMW made good cars...once.
@e36fanatics29Ай бұрын
That's awesome though about your E36! It's wild how people sometimes treat these things and then are surprised when they break.

If you know or want to learn how to do basic and some slightly advanced repairs these cars are reliable. The reason I say that is they don’t have any catastrophic failures from the engine and transmission itself those are reliable it’s everything else around it which are cheap and easy to repair. The issues with these cars is that if you don’t want to do that you are always going to be taking it to the mechanic and it sitting there when you could have changed that part with basic tools and 1 hour of time
@e36fanatics29Ай бұрын
I generally agree! Never had an issue from a major drivetrain component one on of these vehicles (that wasn't caused by negligence). Biggest issue I come across with older BMWs is usually that someone let the car overheat and the head blew.
@BrunoGoncalves-zo3ibАй бұрын
I think preventive maintenance is the key with this cars, and I have to speak against myself here, I know that a water pump in my car won't last more than 70 000/80 000km if I don't replace it before that, the day I will be stranded with coolant leaking, will be 100% my fault. And that applies to many, many parts in this cars. So a little preventive maintenance goes a long way.

As has been said - only ever use a genuine BMW pipe from the dealers. They are about the same price (£16) as the aftermarket junk that doesn't fit.

I want to put a older clock spring on my newer/later model steering wheel basically but the screws are nowhere to be seen unless they are under a cover and I just didn't want to break the newer clock spring Incase I can't replace it with the older one

Question, I have 1999 BMW M3. I replaced the fuse by the battery and #7 in the fuse box. The trunk locks and unlocks perfectly. My question is do I have to put the top down to do a reset or can I do it in the up position?

My fuel pump is new and was working but it sat a few more months to get some other things fixed (93 325is) I put a new battery in today and went to prime it and start it but I’m not hearing the pump come on so I went a checked the fuse 18 and it was fine . I replaced the relay anyway so it’s brand new but still no fuel pump power ? Heeeellllp!!
@7heheadznot7he7ailz3 ай бұрын
Was also wondering ( I should still hear the pump on even if I haven’t changed the filter yet right? How do I check for power at fuse 18 with a volt meter ? Should it be on continuity? Or volts DC ? So many questions and I gotta get to work lol HEEEELP

What is that sensor on the side of the radiator? Around 10:00. I'm trying to stop a slow coolant leak on my new radiator but I can't seem to find any information on that sensor, I'm either trying to get rid of it and put in a plug that fits or replace it

The OEM control arms are getting very pricy. Now it is worthwhile pressing out and replacing the bushings on all the e36's.
@zearbell4 ай бұрын
What do you do if this does not work? Tried this and nothing happens at all. Just replaced both front window motors/bushings and guide rail clips and greased everything well. When I attempt to put down just one window or all of them at once then none of them will go up or down. Take the key out and after a minute all windows go up on their own. If I hold the all down button and then hold up they will go up and work temporarily properly until removing the key again. Ah so the new door handle I installed, the lock microswitch can cause this. Lol so just unplugged it and everything works perfectly. Forgot to connect the key lock rod so also does not matter about that microswitch being there or not.

I'm currently having a small issue with my 320 e36 and I don't know if its the fuel pump or the fuel filter. Whenever I do donuts the car just cuts power and eventually turns off. But only on donuts. When I do burnouts its ok. So I suppose its not pumping enough fuel cause when the car slides it gets on the side of the tank or something. Or maybe it's low fuel pressure.
