ADVENTURE TIME DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO REGULAR SHOW SOMEONE HAD TO SAY
@susanfit4715 күн бұрын
The show lasted almost three seasons, ending its run in May of 1973. The Globetrotters then appeared in The Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine, a live action variety show, which aired on CBS from 1974-76. In February 4 of 1978, NBC came calling and packaged reruns of The Harlem Globetrotters with repeats ofThe Herculoids, Space Ghost, Cattanooga Cats, and C.B. Bears under the title Go Go Globetrotters, which ran for less than a season. 1979 saw the debut of The Super Globetrotters on NBC, a show that only lasted three months in its original run before joining up with Godzilla and Godzooky for the Godzilla/Globetrotters Adventure Hour. In 1980, similar character models and their bus were used in the movie Harlem Globetrotters Meet Show White; although it featured a slighty altered cast to better represent the then-current lineup.

I don’t think they’re underrated more like overshadowed by either the meme heavy episodes or the horrific episodes. Also side note: Procrastination has scenes that were taken out live rent free in my head due to my younger self wondering where the heck they went.

I certainly remember. 1972 and we just had cable installed. Living in Canada, Saturday morning cartoons wasn’t really a thing. The first cartoon I saw on cable was The Harlem Globetrotters(on black & white-we didn’t get a colour tv until December 1974) A couple of things about the show: Scatman Cruthers was the voice of Meadowlark. Cruthers, best known for his roles in The Shining and TV’s Chico and The Man, was no stranger to animation. He would both voice and sing the theme to Hong Kong Phooey. He’d also voice Jazz in Transformers and provide the theme to the Heathcliff & Marmaduke show. Music played an important role in each episode. Just when things look hopeless, the Globetrotters use their basketball tricks to save the day. At that point in each episode, there would be a great upbeat soul/motown flavoured tune played. Important is that people like legendary Songwriter/producer Jeff Barry was involved with the project (he penned the theme song. Archies vocalist Ron Dante wrote songs for the show. Over half of the songs were written by powerhouse songwriters Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. The guy in charge of the music end of the show was Producer Don Kirshner. As lot of people from the 1960’s & 70’s owe their success to him. He was also the guy behind the music for the Monkees and Archies. The music was collected and released as an album on Kirshner’s own label via RCA. It also saw the release of a single “Rainy Day Bells”(one of those Sedaka/Greenfield songs I mentioned earlier. ) The song has become a staple of the Carolina beach music scene. I have the album and it’s really worth checking out. Now the music and the fact that the show aired on CBS are likely why the show has never been released on DVD. Acquiring music rights is extremely expensive and unlike most Hanna Barbera shows, The Harlem Globetrotters is owned by Paramount. They, unlike Warner Brothers, are not known for being very cartoon friendly when it comes to rereleasing animation. They also own the rights to the Jeanie animated series(Which features a young Mark Hamill BTW) and the Partridge Family 2200AD. ( yes that’s a real thing). The Harlem Globetrotters series is one of my top wants on DVD/Blu Ray.

With some exceptions like Puss in Boots 2, Rock Paper Scissors, or the Mario movie, animation in general isn’t the same as it was in the 2000s (which I thought was the BEST DECADE OF ALL TIME) Also please talk about The Buzz On Maggie, it’s a GREAT show!

Before we had cable, internet, computer and all we had today. We had a big fat CRT tv in our family room. A hour before we had go walk to school we would watch Dragon Tails on the channel PBS kids. It came on every morning at 7am. Knowing we had no option and it was the only cartoon we can watch before we went to school we just accepted it. I remember doing this monday to friday with my siblings despite us not liking it. But what can we do? Our options were limited. Looking back at it I am kind of thankful we had at least something to watch as kids.
