Started Silat back in the late 70s, along with Muay Thai in Malaysia, where I was born. And picked up FMA when I moved to California. I primarily focus on Silat/FMA today as it is harder to do MT in my old age. 🙂I am glad Silat has more exposure today through social media and its influence on many other combat arts.

I have a friend who’s an actual Chen style Tai Chi descendant. Let me tell you all the moves are not just for show. They could be quite lethal and agressive if taught and practiced properly. Too bad most of the Tai Chi out there are “fake”.

None in UFC, PRIDE, K1, ETC uses Chinese Martial Arts... And those who claim to be the master of CMA, don`t use any movement of CMA when in fight. Everyone practise CMA and self-claim to be the master was destroyed by Xu Xiaodong. Jack Ma even put reward on him if anyone can defeat and not happened yet.

tai chi is not a martial art, by definition, martial arts are a various sports or skills, mainly of Japanese origin, that originated as forms of self-defense or attacks.

The early form of Silat originated from a martial art called "Sundang," which was created for the elite warriors of Majapahit. Sundang Majapahit is a martial art created by Mahesa Anabrang, combining techniques from the Singasari and Dharmasraya kingdoms. It also uses both swords and keris, with different styles for various combat scenarios: Sundang Gunung (Mountain) for defense, Sundang Kali (River) for offense, Sundang Laut (Sea) for conquest, Sundang Angin (Wind) for infiltration, and Sundang Matahari (Sun) for protection. Sundang Kali spread to the Philippines, influencing the development of "Kali Majapahit" This is the truth that not many people know or don't wanna know, they have just speculated that silat came from the Malay region, but no one has ever clearly identified its exact location

What about Isshin ryu by Tatsuo Shimabuku, Seibukan Shorin ryu by Shimabukuro sensei (Kyan's System), Kobayashi Shorin ryu by Chibana, Shobayashi Shorin ryu by Eizo Shimabukuro or Okinawan Kenpo by Nakamura? These systems are practiced all over the world, and are as different as daylight and dark. I'll be seventy in a couple of months and I've been training and teaching since I was nineteen. Seems like this video is more of a tip of the hat to the Kyokushin Kai and the Japanese styles. Uechi ryu and Goju ryu are Okinawan styles, but Wado, Shotokan (Not Funakoshi's name for his system), Shito ryu, Kyokushin all have Japanese origins. You didn't mention JKA. Karate came from Okinawa and these Japanese systems are hybrid arts. When karate came to the United States it too became a hybrid of the Okinawan art. Mas Oyama was Korean and the Korean arts like Mu Duk Kwan by Hwang Kee must have influence him, so why no tip of the hat to Korean karate. How popular is Tae-Kwon-Do and Tang-Soo-Do? What about American eclectic karate? What about Ed Parker's Chinese Kenpo. This was not close to every major style of karate, but you did cram it into eight minutes. .
