The ones you named are all swords, but we all know, the king of battle ist pointy stick (not saying swords are bad). Aka Spear or pike. With battle i mean BATTLE, not duell, that is more complex... Also, if we take ranged weapons into consideration... Well, we got a winner instantly. Crossbow was so deadly (especially to armored targets, compared to a bow) and easy to use, it was banned by the church. (but everybody used it anyway) Best weapon in this video is propably the naginata (in my opinion)

Okay, but where's the bo? And one more thing: When you're talking about okinawan weapons it is not Karate, it is called Kobudo. Kobudo means old martial arts, as it is a martial art that uses only those weapons. Instead, Karate-Do literally translates to "The way of empty hands" as it doesn't use any weapon. Kobudo is actually related to Karate, but they're are two different martial arts.

user-cy6vq3tj7lThat's not necessarily true. Bodhidharma did not create Shaolin Kung Fu. Kung Fu & Buddhism was already in the monastery before he got there. He only took part and added to Shaolin Culture like many others before, during and after him. He is allegedly, claimed and credited by many and most; the government, The Shaolin Temple(Many monks but not all.) with being the founder of Shaolin Kung fu, and even Kung Fu all together. And Chan Buddhism. But many scholars say there's no evidence and in fact say that he didn't do any of that and there's actually evidence of this. And have been proven but the world is caught up and it's ingrained in the fabric of society all the false information as true that is spread worldwide as good marketing and propaganda. It's why the temple was rebuilt and the movie with Jet Li came out in the 1980s. Which sparked a huge flow of tourism and interests in Shaolin Culture. Especially pride in India/Indians. Although Bodhidharma wasn't necessarily Indian. It has been said and documented that he could have came from anywhere in the area covering from India to Persia(Which are different names of those countries now. Like Iraq, Iran,....) at the time. There are many pyramids throughout the world. Which emerged from cultures that didn't have any connection with each other. Yet they all had the same idea. I said this to say that taking, receiving, borrowing, adopting, adapting, copying,... something from others isn't always the story behind how something got from one place to another. Which also eliminates the concept of origin outside itself.

Spear,bow and gun>>>>>>>>>>>>other weapons
@TheGospelGuy
@TheGospelGuy 2 ай бұрын
Bows have limited ammunition, same with guns. Yes, if you hit all your enemies then it wouldn't matter, however saying it's overall a better weapon than others is just biased. A spear is good, however the blade is very short and easy to parry. And throwing it wouldn't be very helpful considering the distance it travels to hit your enemy will likely reduce the force you put into it. Not to mention you are now unarmed and can't do much to defend for yourself.

@@TheGospelGuyspears are the peak of melee weaponry. Other things have their uses, but polearms of any sort are EXTREMELY difficult to beat. I'd say in an open arena, a guy with a two-handed spear can go toe to toe against 2 or even 3 sword users
@TheGospelGuy
@TheGospelGuy 2 ай бұрын
@@georgiykireev9678 A lance is my personal choice for best melee weapon. A strong staff with a good length double-edged blade is the perfect weapon in my opinion. It has length which puts a good distance between you and your enemy, and also has a blade that allows you to slash and stab your enemies, even through their armour. It gives you a lot of room to block attacks, and counter attacks by parrying. The only downside could be the weight. If made with a thick metal pole and strong blade, it could prove hard to wield. The spear and lance are very similar and are easily confused for the other. When I made my comment I merely highlighted the flaws in those weapons. I never said they were bad. A spear is good for defense, but the offense is lacking. The blade is just too short. Spears are good for hunting, but combat is another thing. Technically, you could forge a longer blade, but that would just be a lance. If you disagree, then say why. And if I am proven wrong, I will admit my error. 😁

Nine section whip made me sigh. >unpredictable movements Incredibly predictable, it's slow to change direction giving ample time to react. As flail and whip weapons go, it's arguably one of the least effective. I LOVE flail, whip and chain weapons, but the 9 section whip feels like a big swing and a miss. Sure, it's not all bad - concealable as fuck, and I'd say probably better than being barehanded if you know it well. But that's pretty much it - if any kung fu practitioners are present, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think I am though. Meteor hammer, nunchaku, three section staff, kusarigama, and rope dart, as far as asian chain weapons go, are all more effective. Nunchaku pretty much outclasses it as a concealed weapon, the rope dart is similar to the 9 section whip but with better reach AND slightly more unpredictable attacks, and the meteor hammer, kusarigama and three section staff are all just legitimately solid weapons if you know your shit, you could fight a sword with any of them and stand a decent chance of winning.

I don't hold it against the guy since it is a common thing but in the katana section I saw what looked to be Chokuto or Ninjato which differ to the Katana with their singular straight edge I believe it is more likely to be a Ninjato as it is held by a ninja but I could be wrong this is at 0:25. Secondly at about 0:48 you see a sword that I believe is either a Nodachi or a Uchigatana these swords are characterised by their large size and use on cavalry however to my knowledge everything he says is true and I don't hold it against the guy because it can be hard to tell the difference if you don't know what to look for. The video is called "Deadliest martial arts weapons". Possibly he found that the Eastern weapons tend to be the most deadly. He said he would make a video on European weapons soon, so it seems he's not biased. And even IF he is, it doesn't change much. We all got a good understanding of each weapon, and that's all we needed. Also, you don't gain this kind of knowledge from watching anime. Anime typically only has Katanas. That's pretty much it. All those other weapons would have to be researched in order to understand them.

These weapons might be lethal, but when you want to quickly train an army of warriors out of civilians/peasants/townsmen, nothing beats a long pointy stick (spear). Half of these weapons are useless in untrained hands and would fare poorly against a spear, and yet somehow people used them. I would like to know more why these peculiar weapons were used at all, and why there is way more variety in them than in European weapons.

I was waiting for the "or so the legends would have you believe. In reality the katana is a decently good, if slightly stiff side-arm for archers, much like most european shortswords". Big L ngl.

Also his explanation on the Kusarigama isn't very accurate either. There are many styles on how you could go about it this includes actually using the weighted chain to kill opponents by sometimes coiling (to make stationary extending possible), spinning (momentum), then extending the chain to target weak spots of an opponent. You could also use the chain to make distance by spinning it around you as allegedly it's made by farmers to defend themselves from aggressors. Tbh this video is built like a hurried essay

@@haha-mm1bd if we could meet up irl, I'd prep a weighed chain and let you smack at me so you can feel just how useless it is to try and kill someone with it, especially then someone with any protection. But as-is you'll just have to trust me that no, proper kusarigama usage was with the chain as a pressure for the enemy to be careful with his sword and the kama as the threat. Especially since it'd be hard to make any precision shots with the chain since it's attached to the head rather than the butt of the kama. I'm not entirely sure what the "spin around them to escape" thing means.

@@chukyuniqul you could cause a concussion to an opponent by hitting them with the weighted end by the spinning motion Please see an actual martial art video using it

@@haha-mm1bd if he's unarmored? maybe. But if he wears armor the lack of a solid lever to transfer the force will cause it to bounce right off. And last I checked it was built as a peasant's weapon to defend against more well-equipped enemies. Also, again, the weight is at the head of the sickle. All martial arts demonstrations I've seen have been little more than larping. The weight is attached to the handle, it's whole meters long, the swordman almost throws away his weapon, he doesn't move to dodge or block, he's unarmored and so on, so forth. It is at best a theatrical spectacle not meant to be realistic and at worst a complete fabrication that ignores reality.
