My screen time is about 3 hours and 30 min a day would the be considered bad? I feel like I’m on it all the time? Also you,re one of my favorite channels love the minimalist style of your vids keep up the good work!

I use a few social media apps to connect with people as it feels safer to share out phone numbers. That's why I want to leave a maximum of one. How does that sound?

ScreenZen is a really good app blocker! You can set limits on certain apps: time spent + how many times a day + how long it takes to open the app once you click on it (i especially like the pause/delay timer)

Im turning 23 soon and I ended up quitting my job a couple months ago due to a robbery that happened there😅 I am now looking for a job I’ll at least not be miserable at but most of the time I’m just being lazy and super addicted to screens, eating junk, and feeling bad about myself. I need out of this rut so bad💔

if u want to watch youtube videos but dont wanna be tempted by shorts there are lots of browser extensions that remove shorts, and get youtube revanced on your phone which lets u remove shorts from the app. i like the longer videos mostly for background noise while im studying or something but i always found myself replacing my old tiktok and instagram reels habits with shorts

Okay so I’m so down to all of this, but would it be possible if I can do this step by step. I just turned on app limits rn for Instagram and TikTok. And I want to see how hard I can push myself to do so, and then increasingly can I do the steps? Like turn on grayscale, silence all notifications, ect?

at least for me, trying to go step by step just made me make a bit of progress before relapsing and spending hours on my phone. like with limiting screen time its just too easy for me to thoughtlessly allow myself more time, but if i actually uninstall the app it gives a much bigger roadblock and if i try to reinstall it the time it takes gives me clarity and i stop. also with limiting screen time i found i would just switch social medias when i ran out of time so ultimately i'd accomplish nothing. but in the end whichever method u find works best, make sure its coordinated, like for step by step keep only 1 or 2 social media apps and set limits for them to phase them out, and for cold turkey make sure theres nothing else on ur phone that'll fill the empty time that you'd otherwise spend on social media. good luck!

Luckily mines over time is at least 1-5 hours within a week just with KZbin only cause I would watch it on my tv instead but somehow I’m always in my room sitting down even after doing errands and chores cause I have no social friends etc 😕

This is an eye opener. I’ve been on summer vacation for only 4 days and I’ve literally just been switching from my phone, to my computer, to my tv. Today I tried going outside but I got bored after 2 seconds and I went inside and got back on my phone. After I got bored of scrolling a few hours, I decided to try sewing as I used to be really into it. I got bored of that after like 5 minutes and went on my computer 😭 there’s something seriously wrong with me. I’ll be starting this dopamine detox tomorrow!

Best of luck! And start slow, maybe one day with no computer, next few days no tv, or maybe for certain periods of the day, that worked best for me, that and getting busy

We will, I’m 21 and had matured within less than a year ago with disciplined social media detox it had opened my eyes fully yet I don’t have social friends and nor a job even I’ve strived for one many times same results and so it gets lonely and draining as if I’m wasting time not having those needs for some while😢

i watched this video a couple months ago, but still in 2024. its frustrating to admit that i'm not even half close to do the things i wish i did/built solidly the habits i evisioned for myself. i'm coming to this video to recenter and question myself again about things and your content always helps with it. we still got 6 months this year guys! never too late, but we must challenge ourselves and never accept being less than we deserve. 🌱

would an hour a day use of video games okay? strictly an hour, and then thats it for the day. I wonder if it would still affect my attention span.

going on a detox - no games day to day life - don't play every day Just my personal opinion. If I am being completely honest with you, what asked is something that addicts say. Try experiencing life without video games for a few months, then see if you still want to play for one hour a day. If you do, fine. But it's likely you won't. I've been on all sides of the spectrum btw.

I love that you’ve mentioned about being mindful on what you’ve spending your time to, as I feel like social media is a REAL addiction. I’ve started this journey for a while, but the urge to install those apps again is so tempting. I don’t think that I can push myself too hard by uninstall all social media, so I’ve decided to left youtube on my phone. Finger crossed for trying again to be mindful on my own life🤞🏻

I've been doing a challenge called "Reclaim Your Brain" from The Guardian. It is a five-week challenge that encourages you to participate in different ways to reduce your screen time by sending a newsletter every Monday on what to do for that week. I'm currently on week 3 and my summer (and life) has changed for the better. I recommend the challenge for anyone who thinks going on a dopamine detox is scary to them. :)

Abraham, I experienced this before I became Catholic. And though it may be hard to hear, this phrase was very impactful to me. Times God will take everything from you, your health, your success... Anything that you are idolizing above him... Not to hurt you but so that you can finally be still... In that stillness you will see him. This was my experience and I just wanted to validate that the fact that you shared this "failure" Is very inspiring to me... I attempted to also share my journey in a similar way but I was more vague and did not sit down and make a whole video. I will be praying for you and your salvation🤍

Hi Abraham, I did this for about a year, I used a flip phone and then used my computer to occasionally post. I have a strong urge to share my expression and I love making videos and vlogs. But as you're addressing, I can reflect that when I didn't have my phone. I spent so much more time doing wholesome things in a very present state of mind. I would eat my lunch and just love the taste of water, Read a book and completely disappear into that world, when I listen to music I preferred listening to an entire album because my attention span was so much longer. I ended up coming back to social media because I want to be a content creator, but I've noticed that my habits have as you've said gone out of control, And I feel the need to jump to extremes. I honestly dislike the culture of current social media/ except KZbin... I love that with KZbin. You get to spend about an hour or two with someone and really understand their thoughts. Do you have any suggestions as a content creator of how to balance putting your work out there and engaging with the online community? This was a wonderful video. Maybe you could make one targeted, specifically towards people who want to be content creators or whose businesses are online.
